Open or closed valve on pony bottle?

I generally use doubles for 90% of my diving now even if recreational. The main reason is redundancy and a better setup than BCD, although I do like the simplicity of a BCD and single (but usually then sling a deco tank as backup air). I will use 2 x 12 litre normally but also have a set of 2...

Open or closed valve on pony bottle?

There are times when you can not hear a free flow, and in that case if its on then you may lose the lot. Often when there are a number of divers around, boat engine noise or breaking waves on rocks. Or if like me, aged hearing thus at more risk of not hearing it. Hence why I always charge and...

    Diving in Tulamben

The Liberty is a bit over rated as a wreck, however the fish life is great. There is another wreck nearby which is a smallish transport which was sunk for diving. Its to the west of the Liberty and accessible from shore from the same area as Liberty. if you like deeper reefs there is a wall...

    Related to Sexism in Diving

Was it a quality custom? My wife needs a 5 mm and we cannot find anything to fit and after 3 custom suits which we gave away are atill looking. We have found that most of the custom builds are of cheap standard neoprene and no one seems to have quality stretch neoprene. I personally dont care...

Diving after 55 - split from: Tavernier fatality - Florida Keys

I heard a couple of 32 year old divers died due to mistakes, better make the age cuttoff 32. Heard a couple of instructors died, better ban all instructors from diving! Ok now seriously lets stop all the rubbish about age cuttoff. Realistically, if you are healthy enough to dive then you should...

No dive operators operating in Darwin Australia Dec 2016

Yes thats what we found too. Travelled from SA to Darwin then WA and most of the top end towns have no dive operator. Not enough customers for them. Very frustrating. We carted dive gear half way around australia and never got one dive in at all in 2 months.

nearly got caught out with smb

Yep, easy to do. I was taught to let it go if you start to go up with it, particularly if you have deco obligation. Once I got a tangle, and let it go, cost me a beer from the captain after he recovered it for me. I always carry 2 anyway just in case (and for other reasons). A DSMB is cheap...

    O2 clean MK 25

Yes the piston. I dont own any and havent serviced any since I did my course, but remember that the reg is spring loaded and explodes all over the place if care is not taken, as well as the piston being expensive and requiring a bullet to reassemble to prevent damaging a very expensive part. I...

    O2 clean MK 25

I am not sure but I suspect the standard kit is not oxygen rated. Was it set up as oxygen clean or just purchased new as a reg and put into service as a deco reg?
  13. Peter69_56

    O2 clean MK 25

Ok, as most dont realise they are a little more complex than the more simple regs, and with an expensive orifice if damaged. I would use an O2 kit if available especially if using very high levels of oxygen. I would probably open it up and clean at least just to ensure its not going to attract...

Your thoughts on dual bladder wing

But even in a dry suit, isnt balance rig, no gas in drysuit, no gas in wing with backgas and weights swim to the surface? To say you can use a dry suit, then suggests its not a balanced rig, as you are now using additional buoyancy? Or are we suggesting that using a dry suit as additional...

    Deep dives on air?

When you do the extended range course you learn a couple of truths. First is that you have to deal with any issues at depth. Going immediately to the surface is generally NOT an option unless you are at extremely high risk of dying if you don't (say no gas), but knowing if you shoot to the...

Your thoughts on dual bladder wing

Appreciate what you are saying and understand what you have achieved with balanced rigs. However this then suggests that it would be impossible to dive deep with a balanced rig. To do an 80m dive with twin 15 or 18 litre in a wetsuit and to be able to swim up without dropping weight would be...

Your thoughts on dual bladder wing

I dont have a problem dropping gear especially if its me or the gear. I agree I am heavy with that much gear, but it is somewhat necessary for the depth. I am just trying to get my head around those who make statements about being able to swim up. I guess my issue is they dont make it clear as...
