    Shearwater for a newbie ?

I think the previous post is better written and a better explanation of the shearwater and I totally agree with it. My response above is more simplistic and not necessarily technically accurate and written in general terms only

    Shearwater for a newbie ?

I If you stupidly miss many stops yes I expect it will give a years deco, trying to help, if you don't have the gas, either way you are bent or dead I am talking about missing a stop or two, it will try and help by recalculating. There is an assumption though that due to your training you ar...

    Rebreather or not?

Love this post. I just bought a micro Revo and am going down the breather path now. Wish I had known more before I bought a second hand one but thats another story. Done nearly 600 dives all the way to 100m on OC. I feel as though that will help me as you really need to have good skill base...

    Shearwater for a newbie ?

Totally agree, the no lockout is very valuable IF used wisely, you miss a stop due to an issue, it keeps calculating on best deco based on new depth. A wise diver might add some more time at 6m to increase the safety margin but the PC does not go off its nut and lock you out, it keeps trying to...

    Shearwater for a newbie ?

I have 2 petrels, first computer was an Oceonic Proplus2 which still works fine after 11 years, still use it when I dive a BCD and recreational gear. Just bought a breather and it has a Predator on it. All my shearwaters work fine and other than that the battery in the Predator sucks because...

    Bolt snap on long hose?

Looks neater in the second pic, not so nice in the first. Diverite clip them onto the hose and its the pits, hence why I changed mine.

    Bolt snap on long hose?

What I dont like is the bolt snap hanging off the reg, Tried it and dont like that. Preference is small profile, hence a small ring so the bolt snap remains on the BCD etc. My feeling anyway

    Bolt snap on long hose?

Same except I have a SS ring on all my regs so they can be clipped off onto a single bolt clip or double ender on a stage etc. I found having a single bolt clip on a regulator the pits. If small so it doesnt interfer, its hard to clip off, if big its a pain, so better to have a SS ring attached...

    TRUK LAGOON

Its not as expensive as you think. The longer you stay there the cheaper it is. Air fares makes up a large chunk of the cost

    TRUK LAGOON

Been there 5 times and love the place. Going back again as I have 10 ships not yet dived from a possible 39 divable wrecks. Think there are about 60 wrecks but many have not been located. Would love to spend a few months there and find some of them as well.

NITROX marked tanks MUST be filled to 24% or greater?

But putting it into context, how many fires do we have per year, per number of tanks etc all over the world (not withstanding those that are not reported). A very very small number in proportion, so we must be doing most things right, and the risk not as significant even with badly designed valves.

Fire coral? For over a week???

I touched something like that at Truk. Tried vinegar but it didnt do a lot. Then I tried an age old cure, I peed on it, and it stopped the pain very quickly. It didnt cure it but it stopped the pain. When I got home I tried some corterzone cream and that finally got rid of the rash which had...

Trying to find the right PLB and canister combo...

I have manged to get my custom Diver canister sealed again using a BS139 O ring stretched on the top seal with original O ring (62mm x 2mm) on the inner seal. This probably means only the BS139 O ring is sealing now as the original O ring is probably doing nothing given it leaked and the...

Trying to find the right PLB and canister combo...

I would not buy a Custom divers Delrin canister. I have had 2 and they have both failed. I am now going to try a McMurdo See my post DIY PLB Dive Canister Critique

    DIY PLB Dive Canister Critique

Ok update on my replacement Custom Divers PLB canister. The original constantly leaked after a few months and drowned my PLB. I replaced O rings and checked for cracks, damaged sealing surfaces etc but nothing. Sent it back to the NZ distributor. They checked at and stated nothing wrong, but...
