    Question Skipping AOW

How many would look further than AOW on the card? Well, at least they know you had 5 dives, one of which is greater than 60 feet. Their system has has a path of instruction that builds on previous instruction, it seems to work for them, SSI has a different path, which works for them, so...

    Question Skipping AOW

Since AOW requires both Deep and Nav, I would assume they would expect both. Also, SSI AOW does not require either specialty to recieve the card.

BC and tank for cold waters

The jacket I replaced had +6# of buoyancy with an empty bladder, the BP/W is -5#. So 6#, or whatever your jacket is, removes that amount of lead altogether, and the BP/W weight replaces some lead and moves it to your back. I removed 11# of lead from my belt, although 5# was just relocated.

Question Integrated weights for first bp/w

I use a pocket belt, as I use different tanks all the time, and it's easier to change weights out for differences. I also have individual pockets for trim on the BP. Last but not least, I've always worn a belt, its come in handy a few times, so it's a habit.

    Question Skipping AOW

I look at it a bit differently, if you are planning to travel for diving in the near future, take PADI AOW (or SSI AA) or you may restricted in the dives you can make with an OW cert. These courses are more frequently taught because they are used as a gateway by dive ops. Otherwise individual...

If I do not know the intermediate pressure supplied by the 1-st stage, which 2-nd stage to buy?

I believe I have a reg newer than that, but not by much. It's not when it was made, but whether it works as intended. So, you know me so well, but I have never met you.

If I do not know the intermediate pressure supplied by the 1-st stage, which 2-nd stage to buy?

Hookah rigs run the IP from the surface, where the first stage is located, so it never sees the divers ambient. It's not SCUBA.

If I do not know the intermediate pressure supplied by the 1-st stage, which 2-nd stage to buy?

Almost anything will work, if you know how to make it work. I've been putting crap together to dive with for decades, if it doesn't work right along the way, make sure you know how to self rescue. Hookah rigs I've dealt with use unbalanced seconds, and the IP was in the range of most firsts...

Question My debate - go with a BP/W or stick with a back-inflate BC?

The SeaTec Manta had two straps, but what was interesting was that they were attached to fabric that wrapped about 3/4 of the way up the tank to hold it in place. It's not a great pic, but I was lucky to find one at all. The fabric with Manta on it is the piece that wraps up on one side of the...

    Primary Donate - Hose Length

Let's face it, all the configurations work, it's a matter if what you need. For the diving I do, I wear a snorkel all the time, with few exceptions. I decided a forty something inch hose, and bungeed backup, works best for me. The long hose will work, but in a rush snag the snorkei and take...

Scuba diver dies while exploring popular shipwreck, a third tragedy in the Florida Keys

In 1978 NOAA formally established procedures for a standard mixture of 68% N2 / 32% O2. It is known as NOAA Nitrox I. A second standard mix that contains 36% O2 is known as NOAA Nitrox II. Since that time, a number of users, including the US Navy, commercial and academic diving operations have...

CONCEPTION FIRE - NTSB REPORT & NEW USCG RULES

From the NTSB report. 3. The origin of the fire on the Conception was likely inside the aft portion of the salon. 4. Although a definitive ignition source cannot be determined, the most likely ignition sources include the electrical distribution system of the vessel, unattended batteries being...

Question Reef hook: bolt snap or carabiner?

I understand the issues, however the forces involved on the shackle are much higher when sailing.

CONCEPTION FIRE - NTSB REPORT & NEW USCG RULES

That is their conclusion. Do you believe that it is the only way a lithium battery fire can happen, or should we pay more attention to lithium batteries in general?

Or they could have just been charging, with many others, on mess deck table(s). Wood, vinyl, and fiberglass burn easily at lithium fire tempatures. Before the fire it was not uncommon to have large numbers of batteries charging overnight, unattended.

Faber HP 100 HDG for $363 w/free shipping... TGTBT?

That's how it was done back when I first started dealing with VIPs. For the first year after the stamped hydro date no sticker was needed, because a DOT visual is done at each hydro. I don't remember the date when the practice was changed, but I remember being annoyed.

Do you own your own tank just for home use? Cleaning and testing your gear?

I've bought all my tanks to dive, the fact they are hanging around to test gear is handy. If I didn't dive locally, I might pick one up to test with, but more likely I'd move on to another hobby.
