    Guess the PSI

I have, but when I do, I don't expect to get air when I inhale.

    Guess the PSI

    And I wouldn't bet on 200 psi.

    Non Diving DCS Death

Caisson disease had scientists of the day baffled for a while too.

    Faber Volume ID

The 3000# tank is probably a MP 72. They made a lot of them and I've not seen another sized 3000#, which means nothing. The 3180# could be an MP 80, 100, or 120. +10% is 3498# not 3500#, makes a difference to DOT. If they are close to the same size I'd guess a 72 and 80. 3000# 72 is 6.75...

    Non Diving DCS Death

Depending on altitude, they may have had to be on oxygen according to procedure, and therefore not thought important enough to mention. Or the reporter doesn't know enough to ask, so it wasn't in the article.

Tropical diving: correct amount of weight versus trim (correct weight distribution)

Which is why I usually have a pile of boat anchors in the shed. If held properly, one can maintain their trim, as well. I do not advise anyone to try this trick, as it is quite dangerous.

Will an older 72 cu. steel tank take a modern K regular valve?

It isn't hard for that dream to become reality: The bands were originals from when they were mounted on the old plastic backpack, I modified them to go on a plate.

    Diving "Conservative" vs Nitrox

...and do it in a chamber, not the water. The big issue is that recreational scuba is it a niche market and its highly unlikely that funds will be spent on that research. Any real underwater research is being done by the US Navy's NEDU, and they already did most of their research making diving...

    Diving "Conservative" vs Nitrox

They don't call it geezer gas for nothing. One issue I saw in the studies, is that fatigue used by most people is more nebulous than how scientists use it. The first study was in a chamber, not the water. Another study (with divers in the water), as an aside since it wasn't part of the...

LA area for diving in March? Catalina?

@Still Kicking Now I remember the Spectre, watch that first step. My daughter and I made the Anacapa trip with a couple of OW classes so it was an easy dive. I'll look around for the UW pics, I think there is some nudibranch porn in with the kelp forest pictures, but it will be after...

LA area for diving in March? Catalina?

I haven't been down there for a while. Managed to dive San Miguel off of her a couple a few times, once off the northwest side when it was like glass, what a dive.

I prefer the Peace, but the diving at Anacapa is great.

It isn't that warm if you are used to it, at least it does warm up in SoCal in the summer.

Save Grey Whales from being killed for Tradtion

"For the Makah Tribe, whale hunting provides a purpose and a discipline which benefits their entire community. It is so important to the Makah, that in 1855 when the Makah ceded thousands of acres of land to the government of the United States, they explicitly reserved their right to whale...

What would you do if you saw someone diving a tank marked "For paintball use only"?

If they were chatty, I would probably bring it up in the conversation. Otherwise, I would assume they just bought the tank with it already on, or were not certified and used it as a dodge to get fills without a card, neither of which is my business.

Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

Although you are correct, a drivers licence gives one the legal ability to drive on public roads, while a c-card is not a licence, and is not legally necessary to scuba dive.

Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

By giving each customer a personal test, you do not remove the liability for their ability from you. With a c-card, the liability for their training and ability rests on another.
