    “Demonstration skills”

On their Instagram page I scrolled down and found a picture of them at Van Damme. This is probably the scientific diving program at Humbolt I've met several times over the years when they come down to dive Mendocino. Had a hilarious encounter when I was diving for abs and they didn't expect to...

    Hydro without vis

If the seller is an antique, like me, he is just giving out of date info, if he is younger you best look inside the tank. Way back when the VIP was instituted, the first year after a hydro, the viz as part of the hydro was considered the VIP, and no sticker was needed. I remembered when that...

    Developing new specialties.

It sounds like you have two issues, the first is get the vacation diver up to speed with diving the north coast, which could already be covered with a scuba refresher course focusing on the north coast diving environment, and second being the distinctive specialty of the job of urchin removal...

Error Diver drowned after accidentally falling in lake with gear on

And remember that it does not indicate that valve is fully open, which may be a surprise later.

Vessel Divers Searching Sunk Superyacht- Sicily

Once again I found the video that explains the keel and stability. It starts about 5:12 in the video.

Vessel Divers Searching Sunk Superyacht- Sicily

The yacht in question has a huge retractable keel, it would normally be retracted when not sailing in Port to keep from hitting or snagging anything. When retracted the center of gravity is much higher, and the yacht is much less stable and if enough force is used it will roll over.

    S80 cylinder identification

The tank is an ISO spec, not a DOT tank, and the OP is in Southern Africa, so I don't know what actual parameters apply.

Question CESA - Have You Ever Done It?

Way back when started diving, it was a usual occurrence when using a k valve, no spg, and I hadn't learned to time my air consumption, or learned to notice the change in breathing of my reg. It was no big deal as the ascent rate was 60'/min, so only 2 min from 120', and because the unbalanced...

Which knot for a permanent eyelet?

Locking carabiners Get ones that that fits around your rack frame, and hook your ratchet strap to that. You will not have to worry about the rope stretching or the knot locking so you have to cut and replace each time, and don't ask.

SCUBA shop that will issue be an AOW card after a few days diving?

Hell, it took me 17 years of diving regularly to get an OW card, and that was because dive ops were getting tight about filling tanks without one. It took about the same amount of time to get an AOW card for a similar reason. Cards are handy if you are an unknown and there is no one you can...

    Help identifying old steel tanks

@Bowers you might also post this in the vintage forum, some of those guys still dive the old 1800# tanks, and might know what it is. 1800# service pressure was the standard before the 2250# tanks, which was the usual before the 3000# Aluminum came out.

    Help identifying old steel tanks

I do like the ScubaPro valve with built in gauge, unfortunately I can't help you with the tank, as I've not seen an 1800# tank with a standard scuba valve.

What Color Tank Should I Buy?

Back when money was an issue for me, I bought two Aluminum tanks for the price of one steel, and it didn’t even hold more gas. The same ratio can be found today. I dove them for over 20 years in cold water, I like steel tanks better, but I got to dive a lot more with the two Aluminum.

Dacor Regulator ID (Yes, I know)

I found a 2020 dacor thread, and at the time I had found that initially Mares made the regs for West Marine, and later they were made by SEAC. I assume they made both stages, but...

Dacor Regulator ID (Yes, I know)

For a while, West Marine sold Dacor branded regulators, this was well after Dacor was out of business, yours may be one of those where the name was licenced out. Unfortunately, they are gone as well.

    Where has DIN been required?

Ask the shop if they use convertible valves, if not get the yoke valve, if you think you may change later, buy a conversion kit. I've never had an issue having yoke regs.

Having a dive site named after you.

One can call it anything they want, however to be official, one has to apply according to the attached document.

    Question for steel tank aficionados

Two dives with different diameter tanks. If either tank slides out you have to pay double and do the class over.

Claims made about ascending vertical vs horizontal

I learned trim from seals and fish on the north coast.

Why is becoming a DM considered not worth it?

To equate doing a public service for your community to paying for DM training and having to work for months in a shop for free is laughable, because that's how it's done around here.
