Bomb in Egypt. Is everyone ok?

Hey guys, Have just read some of the messages here. Well it has been an emotional few days here in Sharm. Thankfully I can confirm that all the Ocean College instructors and staff are OK. This is by no small miracle, as Friday night is usually our party night, and had it been any other...

    camel pack underwater

good stuff… great for the diving in Egypt in the summer where you can get sooo dehydrated. When we did our diveathon, some of the divers did use bottles of water… the type that are similar to a sports drinking bottle where you pull the lid open once it is in your mouth. Apparently they work...

What Responsibilities do Dive Operation Have?

With you on that one scuby doo... Whilst a good operation will give you all the required information and more, currents, visibility and wind can change by the minute, so can be unexpectedly strong or coming from a different direction. I also still feel it is essentially my responsibility as a...

What Responsibilities do Dive Operation Have?

I have read both threads on this subject, and yes I appreciate that you may have felt the comments on the other thread a little harsh. It is usual practice for dive operations where I sometimes work (Sharm el Sheikh) to insist on a local check dive on the first day. You would be surprised by...

    Diving with allergies

I too suffer from mild hayfever, which is not an issue when diving in the Red Sea due to lack of vegetation. However when I started dabbling in a little UK stuff last year, suddenly realised this could be an issue in our pollen laden countryside. Thankfully you will find very little pollen or...

    hoods and long hair

Now turn those degrees into Centigrade and make that the air temp, and you will have my ideal dive tempearature!!!:D You brave lady! Yep you got it, I'm a warm water wuss, and my favourite place to dive is Egypt in the hot hot summer! However in winter there, we do end up wearing hoods and...

    Egypt General

    Travel to underdeveloped countries?

You should have tetanus and typhoid jabs anyway if you are diving, just to make sure, and hep A being a form of food poisoning that gets to your liver, can be caught anywhere where hygiene is lacking (even the UK as a poor mate of mind discovered!) For anyone UK based, a great place to have...

    Caught in the wave

Taipei diver thank you for your post. Your story once again confirms how the dive training helped so many people survive the disaster. Well done for coming out of it at the other end, and for returning to the water! Glad to hear that it has helped your recovery. Good luck with everything.

Red Sea, Anyone got any good/bad info !

hey DiverMichelle Really sad to hear your reports of such a nightmarish time whilst you were in Sharm! Grief... I must admit, I had been concerned about first going to Egypt several years ago, being rather small, female and most notably blonde... however I have since returned there five...

    'Explorers Worlwide Diving' any good?

Hi there, I have flown out to Sharm with Explorers numerous times… around 8 I think and have found them to be very reasonable with a reliable service. The Ocean Club hotel is basic but has a great atmosphere, especially if you are a diver. I also found Ocean College to be great with some...

Found a great mask for small faces!

I know this message was posted some time ago, but I am curious to know, Suthnbelle… how do you find the black skirt of your new funky OMS mask? I have seen these and they do look like they would do the job, but do you not find it a little oppressive having a black area around the edge of your...

Found a great mask for small faces!

Yes I've tried the coolvu, and would say that that is the closest fit out of all the others. I tried the Tusa Splendive too… felt fine in the shop, got it underwater and I spent the whole dive clearing my mask!! (I know! I should have tried it in the pool first… I learned that lesson well) I...

Found a great mask for small faces!

I use the tusa mini Keli, I couldn't see the beginning of this thread so hope I am not repeating anyone's comments here. I keep trying to get a different mask, however have yet to find one that doesn't flood on me:( so… I guess I should just stick with what works for now.

    hoods and long hair

another long-haired girlie here! Must admit, I don't put conditioner in pre-dive as it generally gets washed off into the sea… not the best idea really. Some resorts advise against suntan oil for similar reasons, especially if there are loads of divers in the same area. I do however chuck...

    Women's dive t-shirts

I was about to recommend Diving Daisy too, but got beaten to it :D no skulls in sight, but not too girlie girlie either Or you could go to theDiveBunnie Megastore where you can select from a collection of gallery images, or upload your own pictures and create your own t-shirt… you can add...

    Tsunami aftermath

Interesting stuff, it is amazing how many quakes rumble on with out making the headlines. I'd be interested to see how they compare over the last couple of years though… there is probably a page on that same site, so will have a proper look later… There was an interesting article today in...

    Tsunami aftermath

Wow… as you say… nature is sooo much bigger than we give credit. I had also heard that the quake had shifted the planet on its axis, which I must admit I had assumed to be exaggerated BS until I heard confirmation on programs about the tsunami later :|
