Yeah, but you should have seen the one that got away! :rofl3: Sorry, I couldn't resist. That is really one impressive animal. Glad it will live on and have a chance to get even bigger.

    True & frustrating

If you are going to become a dive professional of any agency, the key is that you are now a professional and there are certain expectations you must live up to. You are not only held to a higher standard by your agency, but by the law also. The fun doesn't have to end by any means, especially...

    Certified? Now what in NY

Hello Masters13, Welcome to :sblogo: I'm with DNY also, and it's a fantastic group. Of course working for Prime Scuba, I can also help you with any equipment needs you may have. I don't know if you are near Goshin, NY or not, but if you are, come on over! Take care, George CMAS**...

None of the above. My 20+ year old Poseidon Jetstream and new XStream are all I have ever needed. Take care, George

Why do the big OMS wings have 2 inflators?

If this same diver actually keeps diving doubles, and actually reaches the point where they are doing longer exposures they will quickly find they do actually need a drysuit. Now they are in the "hole" by $300-400 more than they would have been if they had avoided the redundant bladder wing...

Why do the big OMS wings have 2 inflators?

Hello Again, Lucy's Diver isn't the only wreck diver in the North East, and I sincerely doubt he would claim that his training and experiences speak for all the NE wreck divers. The fact is simply this: Neither you (Tobin), nor DIR advocate a secondary bladder, and there are valid reasons...

    hello to you

Ahhhh, we're in Orange County!!!! Some of our divers have probably dove there. Personally I've done Beaver Damn in Sullivan County.

Why do the big OMS wings have 2 inflators?

Hi Tobin, They are overweighted because in addition to back gas and deco bottles, they generally carry an assortment of tools to pry, chisle, saw, and/or cut away "treasure" This adds a lot of weight, and can easily overwhelm using just a drysuit for buoyancy. I tried this configuraton in...

    PADI vs NAUI

They are far apart in some areas, pretty close in others. PADI requires at least one skill that's never mentioned in NAUI's standards - no mask breathing. I've yet to see where PADI's standards require the exam to be closed book. Where is that? I was going to answer that, but ROgue...

Why do the big OMS wings have 2 inflators?

Quick, crazy question: has anyone ever tried using a lift bag as redundant buoyancy inside a tight situation such as in a wreck or a tight cave passage? Picture a tropical diver in a wetsuit, with doubles in such a situation having a primary bladder failure (say it gets punctured for the sake of...

    Help choosing the best brand

Hello Luicci, I highlighted your own best solution. You will find most of the posters here are vary passionate about the equipment that works best for them. However, please keep in mind that what is best for them may be in fact the worst for you. Your best bet is to try out as many systems...

    PADI vs NAUI

Thanks Sirena - the update is really appreciated. You are totally correct about the fin pivot. The whole point of that exercise is to show the effect that your lungs can have on your buoyancy with open circuit. When explained to the students, the purpose is to show them how they can do...

Am I the only one here that learned to dive with a horse collar BC?

I started diving in 68 with nothing more that a twin set of 72s and a double hose regulator. After getting certified in 73, I used an old co2 fired Mae West for "emergency flotation" In 74 I upgraded to an old Dacor horse collar with a Healthways LPI. I still miss the good ol days! Take care, George

    World Record Longest Dive

I'll make this real easy. Congratulations to Jack and all of his support crew. Regardless of the reasons involved, a new record has been set and the bar raised. May I humbly suggest that anyone who wasn't impressed to please go ahead and set a newer record.

    PADI vs NAUI

I hear ya. As a PADI instructor, I know the PADI part is correct, and as far as the NAUI, that comes from one of their Course Directors. I admit that I never would have believed it if I had not actually seen it done. I agree totally with people here saying that NAUI gives their instructors more...

    PADI vs NAUI

[/B] Just playing devil's advocate here, but if NAUI doesn't have a specified time, then in theory at least, an instructor (I'd personally be surprised if any instructor really did this) could require a 5 second hover as the requirement, making it way lower than PADI's 30 second required...
