Marks on shoulder of aluminum cylinder from NET Cylinder: New Energy Technology Co ?

They’re not going to import them! I can’t interpret the markings either, but forging pressure tanks is meat-and-potatoes mechanical engineering.

    What Color Is Your Stuff?

It’s nice to pick an accent color and mostly stick to it. Fins, straps, and a few other things are easy to customize if you’re buying them new anyway. I have white and it shows up fairly well.

All Around Reg for Travel Rec Diving

Scubapro Mk 11 checks those boxes. Not a high performance reg but it will easily do what you need, and is okay-ish for those more challenging cold and dirty waters. I have two.

Closed New Apeks Tech Shorts Large - $130 + shipping

Help us with the sizing, so we’re not in the same situation. How big are you? Do you dive wet or dry? What size did you end up getting?

    Best Mask Defog ?

I don't think I've ever seen anyone use a commercial mask defogging product. We just spit. One helpful tip: if (when.) it does fog up a bit pull the skirt away from your cheek to partially flood it, look down, look side to side, and clear it normally. Had to teach that to a few new divers, they...

Downsides of being cheap, sharing examples

I love my cheap back zip bag suit! If you have the shoulder mobility to get into it yourself (if you can touch your hands behind your back) they’re more durable and sleeker fitting than front zip with telescopic torso. My cheap-o regret: chinese dive lights on Amazon. Some are okay, have a pair...

    Turtoga - broken back plate

Backplate is usually way stronger than needed. Can’t imagine myself surviving any destructive force powerful enough to break one! Was Sherwood cheaping out and using plastic or something?

Five stages of owning a boat

Bust Out Another Thousand. Lol. I love *other peoples* boats.

Good dive roller bag with durable wheels?

The Ogio Rig 9800 is a staple of the oilfield, I’ve owned two and like it for diving as well. Absolutely not “carry on” but it will haul your whole kit sans tanks and weights with room to spare. Wheel bearings on my current one are actually going, I should probably swap them out, but the overall...

Israeli woman drowns during epileptic incident - Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt

If a professional on-duty lifeguard doesn’t know CPR that is pretty weird though, even in the third world… Anyone more worldly than me want to comment on how likely that is? If it’s true, what are they even there for?!

Israeli woman drowns during epileptic incident - Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt

If she went diving with epilepsy, I’m pretty sure I know who’s fault it was.

Victoria's workplace safety shutters East Gippsland shop - hazardous carbon monoxide fills

How common are inline monitors at commercial fill stations? According to Bauer, who’s in a position to know if anyone is: “Even when your compressor is operated and maintained in line with professional standards, critical conditions may cause breathing air to become contaminated with hazardous...

Advice about protection wear, dry suit / wetsuit

If your hood was making your mask leak you were doing it wrong. The mask skirt should be entirely inside the hoods face hole, then the edge of the hood rolls outside of it. A reasonably trim drysuit doesn’t have much buoyancy itself, it’s all about the undergarment. A gigantic 12mm wetsuit that...

    Shearwater Cloud Updates Fail

I’ve found the iOS app not worth using for anything but firmware updates as well. Feels like a rushed port of a PC program. Does not support the non-rectangular screens of a modern phone in landscape, insists on fullscreen mode. Contacted Shearwater about that, they eventually admitted it was an...

Best full foot fins for current: Atomic SplitFin or Sea Wing Nova?

Never used split fins. I sure love my Novas for current though! They’re sort of specialized for just that, weak in other areas but for powering through current or covering a lot of terrain there’s nothing like them.

    Small backup light recommendations?

Wurkkos. I’ve bought two on Amazon, this one is pretty good as a backup. Magnetic switch and pretty durable construction so not much to go wrong. Nice tight spot and good color. Plenty of power and endurance for what it is. Cheap enough to not regret it.

    Drysuit opinions

Can you touch your hands behind your back? If so, get a rear entry suit! They’re better than front entry in every way: cheaper, tougher, and tighter. If you have good shoulder mobility you can get in and out yourself with a short leader on the zipper. If you don’t, you’re stuck in there until...

Question What alarms do you want on your dive computer?

I always thought that bezel should have been metal, but not going to pay to upgrade! Buzzer and extra tank pressure channels make sense too, but I wouldn’t use those features myself. Good incremental update.
