    found wreck...need ID

I posted another thread, but I thought I would include it here as well. Where on a scotch type boiler would you find the brass data tag? We're gonna try and get back to the wreck in the next two weeks. Were the data tags typically riveted on?

    Scotch boiler data tag location

Where on a "scotch" boiler would you find the brass data tag? We are planning another dive to our wrecksite to specifically look for the data tags on the boilers. Were they typically attached with rivets?

    CF200X Fitting and Ordered Today

I just ordered one myself. I got the zip seals/dry gloves. CF-200 is the suit of choice for the commercial scallop and urchin divers here in Maine because it's durability. I've been diving neoprene suits for the last seven years, I figured it's time to move up. Some guys will cover the knee pads...

    My first drysuit experience ...

Try adding just enough air to the dry suit to keep it from squeezing you, and using your BC it intended purpose, controlling your buoyancy. We dive drysuits quite a bit here in Maine as we dive all year long. I see new dry suit divers trying to control buoyancy with the suit and not their BC...

    found wreck...need ID

Update: Disreguard the first update! After a little more cleaning the valve does NOT say KANE it says CRANE!!!!! Crane valves has been around since 1855. This means the wreck could be much older. I thought it was wierd that it would have a valve made by a japanese company from that time period...

    found wreck...need ID

I have a feeling this wreck is known to exist here. It would be kinda strange to have a ship of this size( I'm guessing 100+feet) sink so close to populated areas and it not be known. I really don't think it will be anything of importance, but it seems really strange that the local fishermen we...

    found wreck...need ID

I appreciate your advice but a good friend found a good wreck and word got to a local marine archiologist at a nearby university. The guy came to see my friend and said that he HAD to tell him where the wreck was. My friend laughed and said "the north atlantic", but I'll show you, if I can be...

    found wreck...need ID

Marine archeologist in Maine will take over your wrecksite, claim it for themselves, take artifacts that should go to a museum and put them on THIER livingroom wall, and have divers forbidden to dive on the site. If they were looking for it, and we found it first, I'd be the first one to tell...

    found wreck...need ID

Thanks WetDawg. I've looked over the mostly intact boiler and did not see a data tag. Do you know where on the boiler they typically put them? I found Kennedy valve online but have not contacted them. Probably later today.

    found wreck...need ID

We have not found a hull outline. Probably won't,The area has big boulders, and heavy surf. The anchor and deck equipment are shallow 20-40 feet and the boilers are out deeper. We think the ship hit this "wall" of a cliff and sank on the slope under it. It would have been beat to pieces here...

    found wreck...need ID

We found a wreck and cant find any info on it. It's not on any chart that I've seen. It's not listed on any wreck list or website that I've seen. We found two riveted boilers and found an anchor. The anchor is a "navy stockless" anchor of about 2200 lbs( I compared it to ones on the tall ship...

Looking for Carl Powell or Powers

Hello I'm looking for a guy that had a dive shop in Brunswick Maine years ago. The name of the shop was "Diver's World" and the guy's name is Carl Powell or Powers. The shop closed about 1990 or so and he moved away. Any info on how I could get in touch with him would be greatly appreciated...

    u-853 penetration

We dove it again last sunday. This time we used Priority fishing charters from Naragansett. I WILL be using them again. Smaller boat but fantastic service. I did the "Grand Tour" from the forward torpedo hatch back to the aft blast hole. I went as slowly as I could stand to go and it took about...

    Foreign built boats for charter????

O.K. so could I use a 30 foot Canadian built "Novi" boat as a six pack charter boat to take people and suppies back and forth to local islands with out getting a waiver? Seems like it would be O.K. to use it for dives, dinner cruises, tours, ect.. I think I found a good deal on a Novi, so...

    Foreign built boats for charter????

O.K. Thanks. Seems a little dumb to me. They can use foreign built airplanes for passengers, foreign built cars and busses to carry people, but no foreign built boats. Makes lots of sense. Anyway, thank you for the info.

    Foreign built boats for charter????

I'm not a Captain yet, signing up for the class soon. I was told that a boat built outside the U.S, can't be used for a charter boat, water taxi, ect.... The guy said the name of the law, but I don't remember it. Any truth to this???
