    Drop the freaking weights!

16 lbs on a weight belt is way to much and why "tin" ? You may want to try putting the weight of the air in your full tank on a rubber weight belt as ditch-able and bolt the rest to your bp and/or tank bands. I use a LP 95 which is about 8 lbs neg full so I put two three pound wights as...

    Changing Scuba Tank Valve

That's closer to my experience here in San Diego. If I empty my tank because I want a different % nitrox or swapping valves or whatever it doesn't mean the tank is contaminated. the shops I use are pretty reasonable and a quick look with a light only takes a second and of course its always...

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

Not sure about any competition but you don't need a surplus of wing lift capacity. The problem here is not the her alleged inexperience with diving dry but the very basic practice of being properly weighted including including the right amount of ditch-able weight and proper wing lift. There...

    keeping ears clean

I started using 50/50 alcohol and vinegar when I was on the high school swim team many, many years ago, and still use it today. I am prone to ear infections but if I use the mix no problems. Very inexpensive and the ingrediants are probably already in your house.

Are Rescue Skills really needed by the average diver.... ?

Same here, that's what got me into UTD. That and seeing UTD divers on boats and at the beach and realizing that there is a different way. Lucky, I happen to live in San Diego. AG is my instructor and I could not ask for a better instructor both in the water and in the class room. However, he...

Are Rescue Skills really needed by the average diver.... ?

Agency and instructor make all the difference. Additionally, many instructors may teach beyond standards but many teach only to the standards and the standards are pretty low in some agencies. The training for OW is very diverse even within an agency. Even the definition of an Average or...
