    Sidemount or Backmount?

This makes no sense, especially for OW. Many of my buddies dive SM, I dive a DSS BP/W with a LP95 tank - we both use a 7' hose and donate the primary and use a bungied backup. Other than my tank is on my back and his is on his side I don't see any difference. There are differences outside the...

    Sidemount or Backmount?

This is a great thread. I dive a single DSS BP/W which I'm pretty happy with. However, I take classes from and dive with UTD so its just a matter of time.

    Dumb Things I've Done

During the SI, I was taking the yoke first stage off my tank and accidently unscrewed the bolt to far and it came out, slipped out of my hand and went overboard. Lucky for me my buddy has an extra reg set with him so I was able to make the second dive. The replacement bolt was $25.

Mike's DCS And Some Lessons Learned

Mike, 41 min @ 61' average is certainately within NDL and I don't see anything in these numbers out the ordinary. Looks like the ascent started at 55, less than 30' per min to the 15' safety stop and held that +/- 4' for 3 min - pretty vanilia. Probably never find a smoking gun, likely several...

Mike's DCS And Some Lessons Learned

You didn't mention if he was using air or NITROX - assuming air, 70' average depth and 41 min bottom time that does exceed min deco limits (NDL). It will be interesting what the actual average depth, max depth and bottom were according to your wife's computer. Not saying its the cause but, in...

Help!!! my daughter has lost her mind!

I'm still stuck on the University of Alabama thing, what not smart enough to get into Auburn? University of Al or Puerto Rico? I'd run to PR too. War Eagle! This is the SEC football thread, right?

How to piss off a Divemaster?

Exactly, your pointing out the dichotomy. One hand you have Cocoajoe (nickname: Francis) with the "don't touch my stuff" attitude and on the other hand there are people like me who don't mind a little help (taking my fins, zipping suit….). As for hitting on the cute girls, I don't blame...

How to piss off a Divemaster?

I usually say thank you. They are just trying to help and it may be hard to know what some divers want and don't want. Personally, sometimes the tanks are pretty close together so I may need some help getting my arm through the shoulder webbing or untwisting the strap or taking my fins from me...

Extending shore dive range with inflatable?

UTD also designed a side mount system Z Side Mount which is pretty good and most of the UTD folks dive side mount (i'm still diving BM) so the only thing strapped down would be a tank or two. You would wearing the rest. Same as Kayak diving, see link below...

Concerns About Length of Open Water Course

This is not that uncommon. Have you looked at other agencies that may have different standards that are more in line with how you want to teach?

How do I know if my son is ready for OW?

I do not agree with the statement "You are the only one that really knows your son and the maturity level that he possesses" in my experience and observation its hard for parents to be objective about their kids. I have three and they surprise me all the time - both good and not so good. In my...

What do you think of AIR2 type second stages

I used one in the past and it was just ok. 1) Its longer than the regular inflator and tends to dangle/hang down 2) when breathing off it, it restricted my head movement. However it breathed fine, no real difference than my primary, it fits the "donate the primary" methodology that I have...

What to do with a couple of days in San Diego in January?

I agree with the above about Catalina and/or San Clemente Island or really any of the Channel Islands. The link below is a pretty complete list of the dive boats in California. California Dive Boats : The Official Page

Anyone using an integrated weight system with a BP & wing?

so you don't have to ditch all your weight by removing the weight belt. Putting weight pockets on a weight belt solves that problem and takes the weight off the BP/W. ---------- Post added December 10th, 2013 at 08:03 AM ---------- That's right, I also have been using them for a while and...

    Diving charters mid December Tampa

$100 is pretty high for a two tanker but that may be the going rate in the Tampa area. Around here the dive sites are pretty close to shore and there is plenty of competition both keep the prices low.

Anyone using an integrated weight system with a BP & wing?

they do appear to be high quality. Since they attach to the plate and thread through the waist strap it seems like it would take up a lot of real-estate on the waist strap - may not be conducive to using a can light - thoughts?
