    max depth with standard air

To begin, my tech training is TDI, and my instructor was trained by Joe Odom ... (he actually got Joe to come here to train him, ... little working vacation thing, lol) As you might imagine, I ended up with a liberal definition of "deep air". I have a favorite location on the wall that's a...

    max depth with standard air

There are some things we need to rethink relative to trying to do them on a budget, or not at all. Doing anything much past 100', maybe 120', with a single tank of air exponentially increases the risk of serious injury if a problem occurs. Diving to depths greater than I would care to ESA from...

    max depth with standard air

"I don't see the gas costs being prohibative compare to the other costs of technical diving." There's an old expression, something to the effect, "It ain't cheap to run with the big dogs" .... And tech diving is the perfect example. Each increase in depth, or penetration distance gets...

    Night Dive

Some of the most awesome dives I've done (and I've done a bunch) are wall dives by just the light of the moon ... I do carry a little cl4 in case .... Come to think of it, moonlight wreck dives have been awesome as well .... the HID comes with me on those .. Moonlight diving is a most unique...

    max depth with standard air

But perhaps divers are generally smarter than some appear ... There are numerous records set and surpassed for deep air in the 400's .... Gilliam at 464' comes to mind, but it's since been surpassed... Guiness no longer allows new records here since more divers die than succeed in new...

    What to buy?

You know what folks do in a wetsuit, it's a matter of hygien to have your own. On the other hand ...... It's also nice to know who's mouth that reg's been in, and what the care and maintainance on it have been like. Knowing it's not an old/abused rental spg doesn't hurt either. The...

    max depth with standard air

And lots of others Have Not. There were a lot of deep air cowboys, ..errrrr pioneers, in the origins of tech diving. Some are still around and offering deep air training, while many others have changed their thinking and eschew deep air now that we know a lot more about helium. Deep air has very...

    Female TecRec BCD

As I read the woman's post, I could see she needs help understanding the difference between what tech really is, and what tech-look-alike rec is. As complex as that issue has gotten to be, (hyperoxic trimix is now rec) ... you guys tell her all her choices are wrong, that there's only one...

    Interesting Deco question..

If it had been a mix diver with a problem coming up on an air schedule. The O2 at 20' was probably a sufrace supplied set up, not uncommon for those trips. Here's a link to a thread on trips to Bikini for those interested...

Oxycheq vs. Dive Rite, help please!

Is that the original post specified diving in a lot of neoprene, All of which compresses with depth. With heavy wetsuits, it's really nice to have the quick, on-the-fly, fit adjustments that the transpac or transplate offer. I'd opt for the 40 or 45# wing, colder water also usualy means higher...

    Torpedo DPV?

and from looking on the net, seem to have a pretty good reputation. Lots of good sites to see what guys have done with them as well. They still aren't in the same class as the Mako, being 12V systems. (you can also get a trade in for a Mako if you buy a Gavin or SS) The big issue with the...

    Torpedo DPV?

Knowing you as a serious diver, I couldn't visualize you with one of those tinkertoys. Darlene

    Highland bands size?

As I recall from a thread on TDS, the DR and Sea Elite are the same , and are slightly narrower (about an eighth of an inch, as I recall) than the Thermo. I forget where the Halcyon and Genesis fit in. If you got bands for the narrower manifolds, and stuck the Thermo on, it may wedge the tanks...

    Interesting Deco question..

for that guy.... "Just Froze" comes from complacency and not having emegency proceedures almost as automatic muscle memory. That may be one of the blind spots of dive professionals, they do so many dives with no problems, that the "can't happen to me" mode sneaks in.

    Interesting Deco question..

While expensive, they do organize well in advance and have their gas for mixing in place. (The Truk trips are the ones harder to get mix to) The nitrox32 would have been the deep deco mix, some like switching to 32 at at 130', others like 50 at 70' and the O2 , of course at 20'. A quick...

    Torpedo DPV?

The LDS that rents/sells them wanted $250 for the dpv specialty course before they'll rent you one, so he just bought it, figured how hard can it be to use, lol.... They are pretty simple, just on - off, pay attention to your depth and time, they run about 40 mins. He usually dives nitrox and at...

    Scubapro Equater

not that I need another rec bc, but it was new, it was there, so I looked it over, looks like an entry level or travel oriented back inflate. There's some pockets built in where you'd expect integrated weights and the backpad is the less expensive thermo formed type. It looks easy to use and...

    Carribbean hammered by rain

But more majorly inconvenienced than damaged. And best of all, the diving didn't take too big a hit to the normally good vis. Welcome Chris, I thought I was the only V Islander on the board, good to have some company. Done any diving here on the big island yet? Darlene
