    Why do you dive?

:jester: I decided that I just had too much money. I was thinking about throwing it away or voting democrats into office (libertarian for life), but then I realized that diving is the best way to work oneself into debt. Since I have been so successful in my efforts, I will be taking...

Question to N. Car wreck divers

I always carry my 40cuft pony with me when I dive off NC (40 because it will soon become a deco bottle). It makes me feel a lot safer because I really don't want to CESA from 100+ ft and it's difficult to always keep your buddy within 25 or so feet. it's also very comforting when I do deco or...

GPS Coords for Wrecks in the BVI

The Rhone and Chikuzen are obviously the best. The Chikuzen is probably one of my favorite wrecks ever--largely due to the fact that 2 - 500+lb jewfish live there. There are three good wrecks near Blue Chromis Reef -- Inganus Bay and two others whose names I can't remember. The three are all...

    Uncle Pug (the boat)

How does it handle the swells? Would it take you out in weather that you wouldn't dive in? Most of the charters here in NC won't go out in seas bigger than 3ft, except one. It was an old North Sea oil rig boat. They would take that boat out in 10ft seas. Amazing. brandon

    What ends your dive?

I was gifted with a set of gills, so I don't breathe. I don't think I have ever had to cut a dive short because of my or my buddies air (while dming is a whole other ball game, did you know you can suck down an 80 in 20 minutes at 40 feet?). Right now, on wreck dives, I dive an hp120 with 36%...

    That weightless feeling......?

I forgot to mention that on my first wall dive I saw three huge spotted eagle rays and three whitetips. I was so amazed, especially since I only had like 8 dives under my belt God, I love diving. No matter how stressed or excited I am, when I go on a dive, I just relax. Is there anything...

    That weightless feeling......?

With bouancy practice, you too can feel weightless with all your gear on. There is nothing better than to float around effortlessly, through swimthroughs, wrecks, etc. The most wonderful thing is to swim over a sheer wall on a gin-clear day. Swim over the edge and look down into the abyss...

    IDC/IE Recommendations

I am a PADI DM, 18 yrs old, with all the required dives and a passion for diving and teaching. This summer I want to return to the same summer program I did last summer, but now as an instructor not as the guy who fills tanks and leads junior divers around. I have had a "falling out" with the...

    Log Chamber Dives?

So, what do you guys think? Say I get bent and complete table 6 in a chamber, can I log that as a dive? :) I've always wanted to go for a ride in a chamber. What do you think is the best way to go visit the chamber? Can I just call DAN @Duke (ehh, duke) and ask them if I could observe...

    Cure for the bends?

hasn't every diver had an experience with expanding intestinal gas? I know I have. Actually, back in the day when I did discover scuba diving, I had really bad gas. I told the instructor I thought I was bent. brandon

    why nitrox

Unless it is positively unavailable, I dive Nitrox. There is absolutely no reason to be diving air. Besides for my HP120, air is $5 and Nitrox is $8, and I can get two good dives off that tank. Nitrox is 36% better than air. :) brandon

    Diving in North Carolina?

Blue Stone is a really nice quarry, but If you are going to drive all the way there, you might as well drive an extra 3 hours to wilmington or morehead. The diving is so much better.

    How long is a dive?

90ft for 50min on EAN36 w/ a computer. Usually can do two of those on a nice wreck charter. My longest, however, was three hours @ 15ft doing "CW" dives (actually in OW) with OW students. I was excited, my RMV was under .3 and I am a pretty big guy. But then again I basically just sat...

    north caroloina diving question

City of Houston and Frying Pan are great dives aren't they. Scubadoo, there are some ok shore dives with good vis, but you have to do them in winter. That's when the inshore algae and stuff dies off. As far as shore dives go, you are limited to piers and jettis. Lot's of people like them...

    Scuba etiquette 101

This summer I was DMing for a bunch of Junior AOW's in a summer program. I tell you: I hate juniors. This is not to say that all juniors are bad because some of them are very good. On the whole, these divers were awful. These kids could suck down an 80 in 30 mins--and they couldn't even lift...

    Lobster Hunting

In the BVI's, it is illegal to take lobsters on scuba. We, however, were not about to let that stop us. We, the other DMs, Instructors, and I, decided that the best way to obtain these lobsters was to collect them on scuba and tie the bag to the mooring line. After a surface interval, we...
