    Garmin or Tom Tom

Whatever works :D While I still can't find that original BBC article about a certain river crossing in rural England that seems like a popular place for Brits to turn their cars into boats, this article talks about it and other issues when you are a bit too trusting of your GPS unit...

Sounds like your typical American mall to me.

    Garmin or Tom Tom

Take a deep breath and repeat this relaxation technique from one of my favorite Seinfeld episodes: SERENITY NOW! SERENITY NOW!! :D :D Speaking of driving off cliffs: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/north_yorkshire/4879026.stm And you knew this had to happen soon...

    Garmin or Tom Tom

Yes they are portable, and they link to GPS satellites. They compare their position with a built-in database to give you a map of where you are. Think of the sat-nav units on the latest high-end cars, just the portable generic version. A friend of mine in the UK has the Tom Tom unit, and...

I stayed at a motel just outside of Hobart, Tasmania that has its own resident duck population, probably because it's right on the River Derwent. The desk clerk says while they're a hit with the guests (although they did wake me up at 6 AM one morning :shakehead ) they have become too large...

new 7mm suit too buoyant!!! What to do?

Very true, sort of like the kids in school who brag they can stand the cold without wearing a jacket. I was in Kona last week, and I actually was cold doing the manta ray night dive in a 3 mm full suit. I would've ended the dive early if the dive weren't so fascinating. Next time I'm renting...

    scopolomine patch washes off

Dramamine and its generic equivalents tend to give leave me foggy (and no it's not my mask :11doh: ) and drowsy whereas Scop patches seem to have no side effects on me, other than the one time a pimple formed where the patch was. The only time I've lost a patch prior to the 72 hour...

    Speeding ticket

South Orange County is a major training ground for traffic enforcement. Ever since I-5 was widened in the 90's, it's not uncommon during off-peak hours for cars to be going in excess of 100 MPH :11: The toll roads are really bad for speeders. As far as the approach, most likely your car...

    Speeding ticket

I can't speak for others, but I don't get annoyed. They are perfectly legal in CA anyway. OTOH don't expect a break from me either when I see one on the dash. As far as I'm concerned that was your early warning device. My personal opinion is that they are largely a waste of money. My...

    Two Idiots Recover Body

Very unlikely to happen. To do so would put into question their own journalistic ethics, as they too likely engage in the same thing. Few news organizations can hold their head high above the sort of activity that Don Henley sang about in "Dirty Laundry." The buzz surrounding Dan Rather's...

    Two Idiots Recover Body

    1. While small towns cannot probably afford their own crime scene techs, they can always ask for the assistance of the county sheriff, or the state police. If they can show a Federal interest (i.e. mob activity, civil rights violation, or the victim was transported across state lines), the FBI...

    So......should Paris go to jail?

Only problem is that is only takes one time for a DUI driver to ruin someone's life forever. He may not make it to work for the boss to take action on him. Odometers are routinely altered, especially on older cars, so this is not a reliable solution. I wouldn't have a problem with GPS...

How will your family know what has happened?

Because it's happened to others Rick. I can't tell you how many calls I've received from people who've lost property that had identifying info on it, especially phone numbers, and now the finder wants a "reward" for finding it. I wouldn't be surprised if the finder himself or herself has...

    So......should Paris go to jail?

I read that article and am not particularly impressed by it. Just because it's not LA County Jail, doesn't mean it's luxurious. Not by a long shot. Yeah the "pay to stay" program may get you a facility that's newer, and has slightly more amenities (Fullerton allowing iPod's was news to...

    So......should Paris go to jail?

In addition to the "drunk driving" comment I made in Otter's thread, another common misconception is that just because your blood alcohol level is less than .08% (or whatever the local "limit" is), that you can't be arrested for DUI. That figure is merely a presumption that you are too...

Burned out, need some job idea's

PI work is grossly overrated, and nothing like TV and movies make it out to be. It's less "detective work" and more "sit on your butt for hours at a time and watch someone, or a place, to see what happens." VERY boring.
