    Question For You Attorneys

Costco gas stations don't accept cash either, only debit, American Express, or a Costco gift card. It's for safety reasons; not having cash eliminates the reason for robbery. I'm not sure what Hawaiian Airlines' reasoning, except perhaps to cut down on employee theft .

    New Daylight Savings Time

Many of my clocks are still an hour ahead. I was in New Zealand when Standard Time went into effect here in the US, and I've just been too lazy to change them. Now that we'll be going to DST a month earlier than before, there's no point in changing them now :D

    TSA, the Fun Never Ends..

That's one thing I've learned in my travels. Make their job easier, and your experience will be easier. However, some people just have to be difficult and always get their way

    TSA, the Fun Never Ends..

Again, I am not saying there are NOT government workers with major attitude problems, because there are. OTOH IMHO a significant number of the population also treat government workers the same way. I never said it was tough physically, but between the mind-numbing monotony and the crap...

    TSA, the Fun Never Ends..

catherine, My post was not directed at you specifically. However, I have worked in government in various positions (both law enforcement and non) for over 20 years. In my opinion (and it is just that), people do have different expectations for government workers than those who work in...

    TSA, the Fun Never Ends..

Having worked both retail and now government, I can say that people tend to treat government workers much worse. I guess the whole notion of "I pay your salary" gives some people an excuse to simply treat government workers like trash. That's not to say there aren't government workers with...

    Nutrition...do we know anything???

My knees are such that they will let me know if it's "unnatural" for them. So far that hasn't happened.

    Nutrition...do we know anything???

I can't speak for other states, but in CA handicap spaces are required to be a certain size; simply taking a normal size space, painting the edges blue, and putting the required stick figure person in a wheelchair symbols isn't going to cut it, even if it's in front of the door. In older...

The Water Channel - "Televison's New Wave"... You're kidding me, right?

Don't laugh, but my local mall has a DayRunner store. It sells nothing but day planners, and then only one brand (DayRunner). Sometimes I wonder if they're a front for some illegal activity, as I can't possibly fathom how they can make enough in just day planner sales to pay the electric bill...

The Water Channel - "Televison's New Wave"... You're kidding me, right?

Don't laugh, but there was once a channel called "The Puppy Channel", that showed nothing but 24/7 footage of puppies playing. It sounded like a joke, but supposedly a poll done in the few cities that it aired showed 41% preferred it over CNBC and 37% over TBS. Remember too that many thought...

    Oahu Car rental

If you haven't booked your airfare and/or hotel yet, you may consider looking at the online travel agencies (Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.) as sometimes they offer good deals when you combine car rental with the other stuff at the same time. This is what I did with Maui. Also, if you...

    Carry-on luggage question

If it's true that certain pieces of luggage are prohibited as carry-ons because their wheels may contain explosives, then they can't be carried AT ALL regardless of whether it's checked or carry-on. My guess though is that it may have to do with the size, and thus the weight, of the bag...

    Oahu noob needing advice

No. Discover Scuba is just that, a very quick introduction to diving so you can see if you'll like it or not, before plunking down the cash and investing the time to do a full O/W course. The academics and pool part of the full O/W course is significantly more comprehensive than any similar...

    Insurance

Ditto. The insurance is good for a year, regardless of the number of dives that you do.

Important; everyone needs to read this one

Even if the system's inventor was much more successful in convincing banks to implement his system, it likely won't work in real life. Just try to think what your ATM PIN is backwards. Takes a bit of thought, doesn't it? Now, imagine trying to think of that while some puke is holding a gun...

Anywhere in the world for 5 months....

Although the diving is probably better elsewhere, for biggest "bang for the buck" I would recommend Australia. You'll get American-style standard of living and conveniences, good exchange rate (about 77 US cents per Aussie dollar) and lots of things to see diving and not diving. Australia...

Hawaii travel advice for scuba newbie

Another vote for Molokini. You'll be confined to the inside of the crater though; the back wall is for more advanced divers. Don't worry, the dive ops will make it clear which one they are going to, and some will not go to the back wall if they have inexperienced divers on board. B&B are...
