Fogging of housing - any solution?

Moisture munchers, seal it up in as dry an environment as possible as close to the water temperature as possible, and lastly (if your housing supports it) using a vacuum pump to lower the pressure inside the housing will more or less eliminate the need to worry about fogging.

Time for New Regs - Recommendations?

Hey all. My and my partner are still diving on my original Zeagle Envoy set circa 2004 and my Zeagle Flathead 7 set circa 2009. The last two trips I've taken I've had issues with my Flathead. The first time my secondary got thrown out of adjustment and was free flowing every time I jumped in...

    Recommendations for Raja Ampat Liveaboard?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll peruse the suggestions and let you know if I have any questions.

    Recommendations for Raja Ampat Liveaboard?

Yeah I'll certainly try! That's generally my approach for any Pacific diving trips due to the travel taking 20+ hours plus the time zones, but we're gonna hop over to New Zealand either before or after the liveaboard since we want to go and it's kinda sorta on the way (and there's direct...

    Recommendations for Raja Ampat Liveaboard?

I did see the Scubaspa boat earlier when I was browsing and it looked quite nice. I agree about the bigger launch vs zodiacs. More preferences, hmmmm. I don't really need a spa and all that, though my dive buddy may disagree, haha. Good food, good DM's, clean cabins, a newer boat in good...

    Recommendations for Raja Ampat Liveaboard?

Yeah I've got no issue with currents. My last couple Pacific trips have been to Fiji in areas with tides/current/drift dives all the time at basically 100% of sites, in some cases very strong. From what I've read Raja Ampat has a bit more variety at least, though yeah there will obviously be...

    Recommendations for Raja Ampat Liveaboard?

Hello all, Never been to Indonesia and it's been on my list for a long time. I'd like to start with Raja Ampat as I think it's got the best combination of critters I'd like to see and the ease of diving (compared to say, Komodo). Anyways, I haven't done a liveaboard in a number of years and...

Trip Report January 2024 Taveuni Dive Resort Trip Report

Yeah Patches was our favorite too. We'd give him and Gia snacks after breakfast sometimes, and he'd hang out on our patio sometimes hoping to get a chance to go inside the room. And yeah we may have dove with you for one day on January 2nd, but I don't recall. Unless you were on a boat by...

Trip Report January 2024 Taveuni Dive Resort Trip Report

Zero mosquitos in the room that I noticed. They were really only noticeable sometimes while you were out sitting by the pool. Yes I believe there's screens/netting in all the room window slat things, and the local gecko population seems to effectively deal with any that do get inside (you'll...

    Question Palau entry Form

Yeah when customs forms ask about "goods" they mean like new in box products that you're importing into their country to sell or whatever. Personal belongings you own and which will stay with you when you return home don't really count. And yes declare your food, snacks, candy, etc... 99% of...

    Insurance for diving equipment

I've always had a personal articles policy through my insurer State Farm for all my photography gear including housings/strobes and whatnot. It covers pretty much any kind of loss including theft, missing luggage, dropped to the bottom of the ocean, flooded housing, etc... I think I pay like...

Opinions on DIVEVOLK for Smartphone Setup

We'll be lucky if it appears in any other camera bodies anytime soon, let alone something with a price tag under like $3000-5000. Canon doesn't appear to be in any hurry.

Opinions on DIVEVOLK for Smartphone Setup

Yeah that's my point. We all know that it's easy enough to get a new phone back home and hell it might even be free or relatively inexpensive depending on your plan/situation. However, none of that helps you right now for the next week or however long you're in Indonesia or wherever. Anyways...

Best Way from Savusavu to Taveuni, Fiji?

LOL, welcome to dealing with Fiji Airways. They are very small, and not the most modern or easy to deal with. If you booked all the way through on one itinerary overseas/domestic you should be ok on luggage weight since they have to take whatever you check even on the small plane (if you just...

Opinions on DIVEVOLK for Smartphone Setup

Yeah, the use case of using your previous phone after upgrading makes sense to me (though most people trade theirs in nowadays).

Opinions on DIVEVOLK for Smartphone Setup

I've seen a few people using these (or similar cheaper/flimsier housings) on recent trips. I totally get the appeal given the convenience and minimal cost of entry, but if it were me I would be extremely hesitant to put my cell phone in the water on an overseas trip, much more so than my...

    Focusing tricks anyone?

Not sure what your setup is since some of this is limited by the type of camera, but for moving subjects on an SLR/mirrorless the answer is typically servo/continuous focus holding down back button focus and hitting the shutter whenever you think you have it. You can also play with the AF...

Question Housing decision - Nauticam vs. Ikelite

Yeah the old slide lock thing from the 2000's era housings was pretty janky. My old 5D housing just had two little sliders holding the ports on. Doesn't make much difference underwater under pressure, but on the surface it's pretty flimsy. They eventually went to 4 sliders and then finally to...

Question Housing decision - Nauticam vs. Ikelite

The issue isn't that the buttons themselves don't work, it's that the acrylic compresses a couple mm when you get very deep and some of the buttons with tight tolerances/minimal gaps between the pegs and the camera body are placed into contact with the camera, placing them in the "pressed"...

Question Housing decision - Nauticam vs. Ikelite

I did a similar analysis before going with Ikelite for my R5. No doubt Nauticam is a higher quality housing but you pay a lot for it. And while the Ikelite housings of 20 years ago were pretty rudimentary and clumsy, I think they've come a long ways and it was hard for me to justify minor...
