Cost of dives in Fiji and advice – is it really worth it?

Been to Taveuni Dive Resort twice, got back from the most recent one last week. They are all inclusive, selling you dive packages with your room/food based on the length of your stay, and you can also add on as many extra dives as you feel like doing beyond that. We did 32 dives over a 2 week...

Experienced shooters: Are you considering moving from strobes to video lights?

I take mainly stills but have dabbled in video a bit since I upgraded to the Canon R5. No desire to get dedicated video lights. The small amount of video I shoot currently is all natural light, either shooting in 8K RAW and color grading in post, or doing manual WB in-camera and shooting...

    Do you use TTL?

I've used Ikelite TTL for 15 years or so. Initially when it was wired into the housings, and now with the dongle adapter thingies. Works fine, use it for like 95% of my shots. I'll occasionally want to shoot something wide angle where I'll want to have more control over how the foreground is...

    Best time to dive Fiji

I've been previously in March, which is at the tail end of the wet season (fall), and in June which is in the dry season (winter). Both were fine. March probably had a bit more rain and one day where we were blown out by a storm, but it's not that bad because they get their rainfall in a very...

Diving at Taveunin, Fiji: Any Chance for Strong Currents at Rainbow Reef at Full Moon?

Basically all the dives on the rainbow reef are drift dives, so yeah expect current and surge to some extent. There's a saying I heard from the boat captain on my first trip to Fiji, "no current, no fun". That said, at least at Taveuni Dive Resort, the captains and divemasters were very good...

Diving the Great White Wall in Fiji

Another recommendation for TDR. About to go back myself as a matter of fact. Also, when I was there in 2022 we ended up randomly diving the white wall a second time as just one of our normal morning dives. The captain and divemaster saw the conditions were perfect and decided to go for it...

    Fiji final decisions

FWIW: About to do my second trip to Taveuni Dive Resort on new years. Can't recommend them enough if you don't mind the extra flight to Taveuni. Only 8 rooms so it's super personal and laid back, and pretty much all dive sites are no more than 10 minutes away (rooms are also HUGE and very...

For Sale FS - Canon 5D + Lenses + Ikelite Housing and Ports

SOLD I'm upgrading my underwater rig so I'm selling my old one. Bought it all new circa 2006-2009. I'd prefer to sell as many items as possible to single buyer(s), but will consider parting things out if the price is right. Everything is in good condition and works fine. The housings and...

    Aeris software question

On a semi-related issue, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I reformatted my machine not too long ago and I did remember to backup the whole aeris folder but I did not backup my log inside the program. When I open the saved log file with a new installation of the software, I am only...

    Blown away by Underwater Sports

I can attest to Ken being a great guy. Great diver and instructor too.

    Dive computer with transmitter

I have had an Aeris Elite for 2 years (thanks yet again to Larry from Scubatoys) and had no problems. Battery is still going strong after 50 or so dives and I have no complaints about the computer.

Oceanic vs. Aeris or features vs. price.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine using the tiny atom instead of my elite. There is such a thing as too small, at least in my opinion :) -Eric

WARNING -- Why my Wireless Transmitter FAILED

Redundancy can be a tricky thing. You are right, in a lot of cases it is not needed for the average rec diver. However, I tend to evaluate things on a more case by case basis and in this case I think it makes sense. Example. I dive with a wireless AI computer that could possibly fail due to...

WARNING -- Why my Wireless Transmitter FAILED

I meant that it fails nearly 100% of the time when using a metal detector and you shouldn't dive with it under those conditions that cause it to fail obviously. -Eric

WARNING -- Why my Wireless Transmitter FAILED

I can't speak for him, but for me it is really nice to have all that information on your wrist where it is very visible. I am able to look at my depth/pressure/time almost constantly throughout the dive as I don't have to reach down and grab my SPG to do it. I liken it to a heads up display...

WARNING -- Why my Wireless Transmitter FAILED

Been diving a Aeris Atmos Elite with the transmitter for over 2 years and had no major problems. The only failures I have had are an very rare brief loss of signal lasting no more than 5 seconds or so. These are to be expected. I also use a digital camera (no strobe) and have no problems. I...

Roatan, Honduras – CoCo View Resort, May 13-20-27, 2006

I'd love to go except I probably won't be able to because I have to be in Pennsylvania for my sister's college graduation the 20th and 21st. Is it possible for me to fly back on the 19th instead of the 20th and maybe fly in a day earlier? I'll make it work if I can :) -Eric

    Hurricane Rita

I hope everyone can get out and get safe. Here is a pretty impressive pic I found: http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~gumley/modis_gallery/images/Rita.20050921.1920.143.250m.jpg Satellite picture from yesterday, very high res. You can see from Texas and the gulf coast all the way to Cancun and...
