vestibular bend (IEDCI) - will the balance restore completely?

For what I experienced from a friend with a vestibular nerve infection, the brain will regain the balance using other signals and suppressing the noise from the injuried nerve - in her case the left vestibular nerve was irrimediably damaged to a complete functionality loss. The brain, then...

Nitrox Analyzer - How many use one?

Oh yes, you are right, but on the liveabord, the tank is never released from your BCD, so nobody should take it erroneously and you will breath that gas for the whole dive. The log sheet is exposed on the dive area of the boat, so everybody can reference it and fill it when needed.

Nitrox Analyzer - How many use one?

I always saw people doing analisys on themselves on liveabords - then they write their results on a sheet where the blender wrote its analysis. Usually the liveaboard provide the analyzer, but I also witness a couple of divers having their own.

Does higher RMV cause higher DCS risk?

Sorry, maybe I was misleading. I prefer the actual theory: volume of gas in and out of our lungs do not affect sensibly the gas dissolved in the blood and tissues more that the effect from partial pressures gradient and time. I did that thoughts because someone with a bit of authoritativeness is...

Does higher RMV cause higher DCS risk?

All those things led us to a couple of thoughts: 1) the actual model is just ideal: if exercise bring in more inert gas, the model should account for that in some way - simple pressure gradients and tissue parameters are not enough. Maybe the algorithms will not change dramatically if they'll...

Does higher RMV cause higher DCS risk?

I actually don't know how they works, but my hypothesis is that in case the workload and skin temperature suggesto to raise the conservative factor they just do that dinamically during the dive. Some computers allow to change the factor in the settings (cold water, obesity, poor sleeping etc)...

Does higher RMV cause higher DCS risk?

Let's think in this way: tissues absorb inert gas according with the partial pressure gradient and the time. If you breath more gas (let's imagine more frequently, or just having larger lungs), it will not change the partial pressure, so it will not affect the amount of inert gas dissolved into...

    Datamask not reading air?

Just my two cents, but I suspect the datamask transmitter is the same used for Shearwater, Hollis, Aeris. They are still produced by the same company (Pelagic) now owned by aqualung, so, maybe you could buy a 2nd hand transmitter or even a new one for less than $399.

Wetsuit question for Mafia Island 11/17

If I were you I'd wear a full 3mm wetsuit, bring with me a light hood (3mm too) just in case: multiple dives in a day make me feel a bit cold. At least I was diving like that this year in the maldives with 82 F and it was perfect.

Broke even CCR vs OC fills costs!

For me the answer is: not yet, let's see in a couple of years.

Broke even CCR vs OC fills costs!

May I add a different point of view ? I was trying to do the same math with my instructor (OC) not longer than one month ago. During the discussion I realized that the discriminant factor could be not economic, but more pratical: in CC you always breath the best mix at any depth.

What backplate and wing are you using for singles?

Yes, you are right, I also have a son with my same size, and sometimes we dive together, that's why the Al BP are two and I arranged to use the SS BP with singles either ... Next step will be when my son will dive twins, some suggestion ? :D

What backplate and wing are you using for singles?

Al BP and Halcyon Pioneer 30# wing or Al BP and DTD 38# wing (with 18L steel cylinder). Both do not requires STA In 3mm wetsuit I do not have ballast (maybe 1Kg) With drysuit SS BP and 5Kg weights with STA because it is faster to switch to twinset just removing it and changing the wing...

What kind of cutting tool do you have and where do you mount it?

Knife on waist belt (left), trilobite on the right (just close to the bellow pocket). In case no pocket I'd prefer to put the line cutter on the shoulder strap.

Ladies: What do you wear on liveaboards?

I'm not a lady, but on every liveaboard I went there was at least a bathroom directly accessible from the diving deck. Most of us, not only ladies, did use it to wear dry clothes (shorts or whatever we need) without any problem. You could take into consideration to use it even donning your...
