I did Lanai with Extended Horizons in Lahaina. They were pretty good but they didn't make any allowances for experienced divers. We were all DM's and Instructors but we got the same bottom time as everyone else on the boat.
I go to Kehei every year and I usually dive with Mike Severns or...
I'd pick them up for that price. The valves alone are worth that much. Without seeing the info stamped on the neck of the tank it's hard to say what they are. They look like steel 80's or 100's but I can't tell without closer inspection. Are they still in hydro and vip?
Both are good regulators. You can't go wrong with either brand. I would look at other brands as well. Atomic, Oceanic, Mares and US Divers/Aqua Lung. They also produce good products.
I have the exact same setup. I use is as a backup rig but I have taken it down to 150' with no problems in Hawaii. I have also used it in cold water and it works great. It's a good rig. Enjoy!
I trim off the old seal and leave the part that is glued to the suit in place. I then clean and scuff the remaining part of the old seal. I clean and scuff the new seal. Apply glue to both surfaces, let it dry, apply another coat of glue (gluing will depend on the glue you use, follow the...
When I ordered my new suit they had boots to try on with whatever sock combo you wanted. You put on your socks and tried on the boot. The manufacturer has no idea what sock combo you plan on using so it's a good idea to try the boots first if possible.
Molikini is a must do. The back wall in particular. I dive with Ed Robinsons every year and they do a great job. There is some very good shore diving as well. Just drop by a Maui Dive Shop and pick up a free map. That is really the only reason I go to the Maui Dive shop. I rent tanks and...
No way it would work. The compressor maintenance would be huge. The liability would be a killer, who would pay to have the tanks vip'd and hydroed? Most shops don't make much money on air fills. I own my own tanks so how would I get them filled? I'm not willing to send my gear out of state to...
I have a PX2 first stage with the Alpha 7 second and I've it several times in cold water. The average temp here is 50 degrees. In the winter the surface can get much colder. I've never had a problem with it. It's been a good reg.
Try everything with your eyes closed. Practice until you can find and manage everything with no vis. That is the biggest advantage for me with my gear. I haven't changed my gear configuration in years because I can manage everything blind folded.
I'd take them to a shop and have them looked at prior to sending them in for a hydro. They will remove the valves and look for rust and pitting. I'll bet they pass hydro if they are clean inside. Steel tanks last a long time if they are properly taken care of.
I'm still using my first regulator. I would upgrade only when you need to. It's a balanced piston first stage so it should perform just fine. Congrats and welcome!
I use the SiTech valve, I usually dive with it open about half way so it autodumps but not as much as if it were open the all the way. I'm not a fan of wrist dumps. I've seen to many people come up wet when the air went out the wrist seal and not the valve.
Part of the problem is that on a dive boat with a group of divers going together the entire group is penalized by the one diver on the tables. If the tables allow for you to do a 80' dive for say 20 minutes but the other 5 people are on computers that allow them twice the bottom time they all...
