Planning Sidemount Training Trip to Mexico (ProTech)

Thanks again for all the input. I've decided to go with Protech, partially because they are familiar with the Xdeep gear I want to use, and because they offer onsite accommodations. From a technical standpoint I think all the suggested companies have been sound. Now I just have to commit to...

New to diving - first reg purchase recommendations

I went the DIN with yoke adapter route on my xtx50 and haven't had any complaints. Some of the shops in warm water locations are adding DIN tanks to their stock, as well, so you may not even have to use the adapter :)

    Looking for a recommendation regulators

Good to know, thanks. Also, does this mean I am not covered while traveling, even if I brought my Apeks regulator to a recognized shop? Edit: I've emailed Apeks support about this, sorry for putting you on the spot...

I plan to pick mine up while visiting family over there for that reason--it's great to have family in the right places :)

    Looking for a recommendation regulators

I have to chime in as I'm looking at the mtx-r for SM, as the waters near me are running ~6C right now--has anyone here dove these regs and noticed the wob difference at all?

Interesting. Looks like he is UK based, but gets around quite a bit. I assume you certified with him (RAID?) for SM and Cave?

Planning Sidemount Training Trip to Mexico (ProTech)

Thanks to everyone who's chimed in; it's great to hear about all the different experiences and suggestions. I do have one question I should have asked earlier: how much would you expect to pay per class or per day from a serious tech dive outfit? I know it's generally held that you get what...

Planning Sidemount Training Trip to Mexico (ProTech)

Sounds like good advice. I know there are a bunch of rigs out there, some better than others depending on the use case, but I'm thinking a Stealth will meet my warm water needs.

Planning Sidemount Training Trip to Mexico (ProTech)

@rddvet, Thanks, that's some great insight and definitely helps a lot. Tulum sounds like PDC from 20 years ago, which I remember fondly. Also, just curious, but did you train with your own side-mount kit, or use one from Protec? I'm torn between buying my kit beforehand so I can get used to...

Any particular reason you would choose them over ProTec?

Planning Sidemount Training Trip to Mexico (ProTech)

Thanks for the input so far, sounds like I will be best off basing out of Tulum, which is nice, given I've been meaning to visit there anyway :)

Planning Sidemount Training Trip to Mexico (ProTech)

No, it will just be me, and most of my money will be going to training, so no lavish accommodations for me :)

Planning Sidemount Training Trip to Mexico (ProTech)

Hi folks, I've been bitten by the side-mount bug and am in the process of planning an excursion to ProTech, but I see that they have two dive centers--is there any reason to choose one over the other? Any other thoughts or considerations as I journey into the the realm of side-mount (and...

    Greetings All

Both :) Any local dive will be cold (45F-55F depending on the season.) Thankfully I invested in a Bare dry suit last year. I dive warm water as often as my wallet allows...Bonaire in April!
