    Being a left-handed diver

I'm not asking to be convinced, I'm trying to broaden my base of understanding. R

    Being a left-handed diver

I think I'm probably a poor example as far as kitting up is concerned since it's all just so automatic I can't really think of how I do things anymore or what hand I'm using for what or why. It would be interesting to see a righty and a lefty side by side in training to see if I could get clued...

    Being a left-handed diver

The funny thing is, I've heard a zillion reasons why people can't do stuff and being a lefty just hasn't been one of them. I'm surprised a little to hear that there are issues at all since people will stall and complain and make excuses for a whole litany of ridiculous reasons and this one is...

    Being a left-handed diver

I'm not at all dismissing the lefty sentiment, but aside from a few not very compelling examples I don't see what specific issues a lefty might have. If you have some that are diving related, I'm really ready to hear them. edit to add: I don't mind the spg where it is. It's fine there, I know...

    Being a left-handed diver

Anytime ;) I'm not really trying to pick on you but I see divers do all sorts of wacky stuff and I have no idea if any of it has to do with being a righty or a lefty. I see divers on a pretty regular basis grabbing the LPI with their right hand which I suppose is what you're talking about in...

SDDS - Sudden Diver Death Syndrome

String, I'm totally with you on this one. Breathing from a regulator for the first couple dives just isn't like regular breathing and people that are using inefficient breathing patterns can very easily build up CO2 which can lead to all sorts of mysterious physical symptoms that can manifest...

    Being a left-handed diver

How do you route your long hose? It sounds like you have it coming off the left side of your 2nd stage which is the opposite of convention. With rescues, the mask is the 3rd/4th thing to come off after weightbelt/weighbelt so the snorkel should be long gone by the time you're at buckles. R

    Being a left-handed diver

If I'm missing something, please educate me, but a quick release buckle is ambi-useable afaik. R

    Being a left-handed diver

Gear removal can be done from either side. There's nothing in the standards that specifies that you have to use one hand or the other. If your instructor said something, then he/she made it up. R

    Being a left-handed diver

I guess the question I have is, what is it that lefties have trouble with that would account for them having more accidents than righties? Nothing about diving was normal or natural when I started. I was making both hands do things they didn't know how to do. I had to build muscle memory for...

    Being a left-handed diver

About as easy as manipulating the left post on a set of doubles with my right hand I'm guessing... oh wait... I use my left hand for that, fascinating. R

    Being a left-handed diver

I honestly can't remember once looking at someone underwater and wondering if handedness had anything to do with anything. What are we supposed to be noticing that you can't do properly again? Rachel

Why an age requirement for Nitrox course?

There are lots of people that believe that, however, it has nothing to do with the OP's question. R

Why an age requirement for Nitrox course?

Well, 15 is the age at which PADI certified divers are just 'certified divers' not juniors so the depth restrictions that apply to junior divers are gone putting the divers in the same depth range where nitrox is a clear benefit instead of the shallower dives where the only realistic benefit is...

    Pockets?

I dive x-shorts since I have a bunch of wetsuits and I'm not putting pockets on all of them! I look like a dork, but I do love them so! Rachel

It's been good! The air temps are in the mid-80s, water temps around 78-79, vis is our usual 60-80'. I can't complain! You should try it sometime, you might like it! R P.S. Jep, you've been around long enough to know that the deeper we get into winter, more people start cyberdiving and the...

I miss all the fun! I'd say something about the spanking, er slapping but I'm afraid your wife wouldn't like it. I suppose giving Jep a good whack is always appropriate even if we're not quite sure why... R
