    Question Chest pain at depth?

A sharp sting/burn, I'd relate to heart burn. A squeeze, is a red flag in my world (EMS dispatcher for 10 years). Especially in combination with strenuous activity. (Of course, wording on a world wide forum, language barriers and so on can influence choices of words) Recommend you follow up...

    GUE Equipment Questions

Can't say I have experienced anyone saying "no waistband" weightpouches. Personally I prefer to keep my waistband clean, however I hate weightbelts with a vengeance, so my weighting is usually a combo of permanently bolted lead for the majority of the weight, and a pocket with 2kgs on my right...

    Question Chest pain at depth?

What kind of pain? Burning? Hugging? Stinging? Trouble breathing? Where in the chest? Left? Right? Center? Front? Back? I was thinking heartburn.... I dont know how your trim was in BM. But people are often very flat in SM. So... food/stomach/eosophagus reflux related? Disclaimer: SEE A PROPER...

DIR- GUE segregate deco regs from stage regs?

Stageregs are stageregs. Having them all O2-OK adds to equipment redundancy. There is ALWAYS the one reg that -needs- to malfunction at the divesite. If you need one... bring 3... especially stage-regs.

    Keeping my head warm

Make sure the skirt of your mask is under your hood. Then you can vent warm air from your mask into your hood. Also, get a thicker hood with better fit. Hoods are "fresh produce".

Question 40 or 50 lb wing for doubles? And what about (future) stage tanks?

 Personally... I religiously avoid wet suits. Water is EITHER warm enough for board shorts and rash-guard OR it is colder than bath water and hence warrants a dry suit. However... I am still curious on how you would make diving a D12+ steel safe with a thick wet suit on technical dives. I...

Question 40 or 50 lb wing for doubles? And what about (future) stage tanks?

Let me refrase that... "large double steels" (But usually the smaller steels will have too little volume for technical dives) The problem is not so much the tanks OR the wing OR the wetsuit. The combination however is an issue. The HP100s with a wetsuit is going to be a serious issue in case of...

Question 40 or 50 lb wing for doubles? And what about (future) stage tanks?

So... Is the problem in this story the wing, or the WETsuit? In which world is it a good idea to pair up steel tanks and thick wet suits? And should it not be your job as an instructor to guide your student before she is put in potiential harms way?

Question Long term effects of O2 pulmonary toxicity

From the information given to me at the chamber before starting my series of HBO treatments they said that some experience a 3% loss in pulmonary function permanently. Currently my brain is a bit mush, so consider it with a grain of salt. Incidentally, one of the treatments currently in testing...

    Thread split: CNS toxicity limits

O2 can influence both lungs and brain negatively. In the brain, it causes ox tox with seizures. In the lungs, the oxidative stress causes damage to the tissue with following degradation in gas exchange over the alveoli. As a nice anectode. I currently have the dubious pleasure of being treated...

Norway Diving: Lofoten Islands and Saltstraumen Trip Report

Diving in Norway is organised under NDF and NIF (Norges Idrettsforbund and Norgesdykkeforbund) and are sport organisations. In these organisations, diving is under the umbrella of CMAS (much like BSAC). The Norwegian government have arrangements for ALL sports members of Norges Idrettsforbund...

    First BPW assembly issues

You are not supposed to have the lower horizontal webbingpart there. Unthread it. Start with the webbing with grommet aligned with a hole, horizontal to the plate on the back side. Then thread either side through the slanted hole on the respective side, back to front. Then, up and through the...

Question When do we speak of technical diving ?

I usually do it to get rid of guys... Note to self: remember to pack away the scooter, rebreather, stages, drysuit and camera from the bathroom if bringing home dates that "actively vacationdives in a shorty"...

How you write deco plan on your slate?

Use a normal pencil in wetnotes. In the wetnotes, I keep some of these and one Pilot Croquis Pen.

Backplate / harness fitting - doubles

As DM is saying here, your elbow position is blocking the natural range of motion in the shoulder. Start with palms down your side, facing your hip. Bend elbow, lift arm so palm strokes ear. Keep elbow forward/upward.

BP / Wing / Harness Fitting. Am I Physically Defective?

It might be a technique problem. Quite often the instinct way of reaching back is elbow 90 degrees to the direction you are facing. If this is how you are doing it, your scapula/other shoulder anatomy will block your arms range of motion. instead... Hold your arm down your side, palm facing hip...

    Heated vests

It probably works just fine... I have just been close to a friend whose heater-battery decided to go kaboom in 60meters of water... We were very happy we could get it off his plate and away from the suit. Hence... a slight bit sceptical. However... most of my "scepticality" came from the...

    Heated vests

Just by looking at the specs I am sceptical. Personally, having batteries inside a drysuit just gives me the heebejeebies thinking about it. Note #2, 30w is not very much. I just upgraded from Santis 55w to Trojans 70watts... Electric heating in wetsuits, I know nothing about.
