Do you have any advice for Gozo?

-Gozo is so small so I don´t think it matters much...I think you´d have a much better time if you arrange this before you go (I´ve used Calypso which were very good). -I think you´re better fo using the diveshop, it should be cheap and you won´t save much of anything... -There is a hotel...

    Travel Agent Referral for France

I wasn´t trying to be offensive... As I speak both english and german fluently, I wouldn´t agree that they are similar... My french is limited and my spanish, even more so, but from listening to language-tapes in both languages I found them to be quite similar and both spanish and french...

    Travel Agent Referral for France

Gaydar? Personally I have enough trouble with my femdar so it didn´t bother me either... Can´t really help with hotels because I´ve stayed at someones place every time I´ve been there... North African/african neighbourhood is Goutte d'Or (not that far from gare du nord)...I´ve only walked...

    Travel Agent Referral for France

Hey Catherine...I forgot...There are lots of small shops in the Marais, in Paris...it is the gay quarter so you may need to hold on tight to jb ;)...I spent the better part of 4 hrs walking around...the champs ellyce, louvre, marais, beauburg, notre dame etc...I had a "local guide" though so...I...

    Reg or Travel wing?

I started out using a recwing for both doubles and singles (bought it for doubles), in the end I got a travel wing for my single-setup and removed the "cords" from the recwing for the doubles... If I were you I´d start out with a travel-wing (or equivalent) and buy a doubles-wing when you...

    Deep diving in Subic

I dove the AJ-p2 savage wth Johan in 06, depth was about 70meters...a "1-dive wreck", IMO (but cool all the same)

    Swimming vs. spinning

This is a fairly typical program that we swim in my masters class (master in this case is short for aging and slightly discrepit)...I´ll use laps to stay away from the whole metric vs. imperial issue... -8 laps, any style you want, "slow and stretching"... -3 "full" medleys (1 lap/style)...

    Swimming vs. spinning

I´d second those suggesting that you vary your swimming routine... Do sprints, medleys and intervals...use all the different styles...don´t just "grind"...if you want more cardio and strength in your swimming, try doing a few butterfly-laps and if that doesen´t make you breath harder then you´re...

Thoughts on Training, Panic, and Hazing

I agree that "good" training should push you past your comfortzone. The training Thassalamania describes doesen´t seem to ever get too close to the students "panic threshold" but does gradually make them comfortable, where they weren´t before... Hazing, to me, has no place in serious training...

    Adv Nitrox/Deco Procedures

I did adv. rec. tmx and adv. wreck together (IANTD). We had to shoot a bag, no-mask OOA, remove/replace stages blind (in correct order), airshare, remove gear from "unconscious diver" and lift to surface, "realistic" valve-drills... These and the other skills were first taught/practiced and...

Ascent rates. Why do you choose to do it the way you do it.

I see people "hurry" to their safetystop so that they can spend time there and be "extra safe" which seems counter-productive... what I do on recdives is that I make sure that my ascent rate stays constant and below 30ft/min thruout the ascent, I think it´s important to avoid "jumps" in your...

    why helium?

Bailout is fully redundant from the RB since it´s (at least usually) comprised of completely separate OC-tanks and since you carry enough to end your dive on the bailout (while breathed OC)...some units have/are modified to connect off-board bailout but I don´t think anyone plans their bailout...

    Cozumel = "hell on earth?!"

Hell on earth? I don´t think it had anything to do with lack of amenities... I´ve only been once but... It sort of felt like the "disney version" of Mexico...a very "american mexico"...it seemed like most of the people were either on AI´s or cruiseships (which is fine if that´s what you...

Which shops offer technical diving in Hawaii?

most membrane systems only do <50% nitrox so I´d say that a membrane-system is not enough for a techshop...PP is a must...

What do you do for exercise?

I swim 2 times a week. I´m a member of a local swimclub and we meet up and swim "programs"...medleys, starts, paddles, leg-kicks and all sorts of stuff to keep it fun and varied...we usually do about 2k each time... Just sign up for an adult-swim course and start racking up those laps! I...

Are SCR's the RHSC of the Rebreather World?

You might want to look into the rEvo...I started out thinking I was going to get a KISS but after looking around and tips from some nice people on this board (thanx mrX!) and others, I finally decided to go for a rEvo...I think it´s a better design (way less o-rings!), there seem to be quite a...

Are SCR's the RHSC of the Rebreather World?

My view (and I admit it´s fairly uninformed) is that mCCRs are better mCCRs than eCCRs...Why would you pay for all that "stuff" only to essentially "turn it off"? The mCCRs do what you want to do with constant-massflow but without using a bunch of expensive electronics...I´m not anti eCCRs...

Are SCR's the RHSC of the Rebreather World?

I started asking the same questions you did about a year ago (though I do dive deep on OC and want to continue doing so on RB)... I´ll take delivery of my MCCR (a rEvo) at the end of this month...What may seem a bit counterintuitive is that CCRs have much better "NDLs" even in the shallow...

    Cross training questions

Swimming! If you know the four styles and get some paddles and a kickboard you can vary your workout depending on what you need(strength, endurance, flexibility) while in a low-impact enviroment...it´s also great for your core... What I do is spend two nights a week in the pool and then have...

Do you avoid people with bad sac rates?

I think it depends on the dive...for regular, local, "rec diving" I couldn´t care less... If I travel half-way around the world and end up surfacing with half a tank left, I´ll buddy with someone else on the next dive...
