    Opinions on DSAT TecRec courses

I did my first courses with an IANTD instructor (adv.rec.tmx->tmx & adv. wreck->tech wreck) and I think it makes a lot of sense to do the "decompression courses" in conjunction with an "enviroment course". Besides making the dives a lot more fun (I got to dive wrecks on my course) it also gives...

Air Breaks: When & How Long do You do Them?

I don´t do many of these (only done a few) but for me it´s very temperature dependent... In warm water I´d exclude the break from the deco time but in warm water I´m less "bothered" by the O2 so don´t really need the break...I´ve done up to 30 mins in warm water on O2(without break) without...

Dumbing down of scuba certification courses (PADI) - what have we missed?

I´m not "older" but I feel I can answer anyway... The point others will make is propably that if you are well-trained there´d be no reason to be stressed from being OOA or from having to buddy-breathe...Buddy breathing has been a component of all my technical courses (taken post 2000), where...

    Valve drill

Forgive me here, not being dir, but in the real world you shouldn´t do the dives if you can´t shut down the valves...that´s the whole point of the "drill" in the first place...without getting too dramatic about it I can´t believe you even wrote that...

How to say "Octopus" in DIR?

Have you ever seen someone with a mask bungeed around the neck? I´d like to see that...

    Cave Diving Training Agencies

My only "issue" with the GUE cave courses is that I´d get 21 days in florida with my full cave instructor (who lives in the UK) for the price of cave 1 & 2(10 days of instruction)...I don´t see how the GUE-courses can be good value for money (not having taken them)...

    Basic decompression procedures

I have a friend who´s profile is similar to yours and TBH I have no qualms about doing wreck penetrations and deco with this person (sometimes exceeding the 15min deco as well)... I don´t think you´d come away from the "standard class" with anything but a "refresher type"-experience and...

At what point do you consider redundancy?

Why? For technical dives I can see the point but for recreational ones? If the computer craps, you either continue the dive (I feel comfortable doing recreational one-tank dives without a computer using other information to stay safe), follow your buddy or abort the dive... If you want to...

At what point do you consider redundancy?

I dive a single tank when my RB is too much work for the dive, I´m solo or when I´m with an insta-buddy... For everything else I dive my rebreather (with bail-out)...

900 times more deadly than OC?

I think the key for any new RB-diver (like myself) is to set firm limits, from the start, and stick to them... I´ve promised myself not to: -take chances on sorb -dive with a known fault -dive without going thru the check-list -dive without adequate bail-out -go "deep" until after 50hrs...

    Diving vs. Sex

Were did the "keeping my partner happy" enter into the conversation about sex?;)

    You need skills, not dives.

Coach steve: there´s a dir-atlanta group...I´m not saying you need to be dir to have good bouyancy (I´m not dir and never will be) but it´s a place to start...I think there´s a user on SB called dir-atlanta, pm him or google and I think you´ll find that there are quite a few people in your area...

    Deep Air Diving - thoughts

Most agencies recommend maximum end between 100-130ft and except for differing views between divers as to the narcotic effects of O2 arguing about it seems a bit silly? For what it´s worth I was taught to use PO2 of 1,2 on my recent RB-course and many RB-divers stay at 1 on longer dives...I...

Would you dive with this outfit?

Equipment for Adv Nitrox and Deco Proc

I sort of agree with DA Aquamaster...it´s an "easy out" for instructors who want to taskload students and I definetly agree that training should be governed by a "train like you fight, fight like you train" mentality... The hardest drill I´ve ever had to do was "unconscious diver lift" with...

Curious about life on a live-aboard....

I don´t know about the particular trip you´re interested in but the liveaboards I´ve done, you may arrive solo, but you´re usually buddied up with someone pretty soon (most boats you share a cabin with someone anyway) so while diving solo may be fun, I think you´ll miss out on some of the...

Equipment for Adv Nitrox and Deco Proc

Umm...what he was saying was that you remove RB "from the top" and then dive "rule of x" on what´s left which is less agressive than just diving "rule of x"... To the OP: I did my first dives in doubles on the course, they were rented... I wouldn´t recommend that approach because it took a...
