I was trying on my new DUI 200g Thinsulate jumpsuit today and my wife started laughing and singing Sir Mix-a-lot's "Baby Got Back" -
Oh, my, god. Becky, look at her butt. It is so big.
My jumpsuit has a HUGE butt - basically a lot of extra material below the rear elastic waist band. I...
Some turtle shots from my trip to Cozumel last month.
This turtle was eating the stump of a sponge. Everytime it took a bite, the angelfish would dart in to eat the sponge bits.

I know what you mean. With my Nikon D80 and a 4 gig card, shooting Raw+fine JPG gives me about 225, too. What I have found is that this is just an estimate by the camera. In general, I get 1.5-2.0x that number of photos based on the individual photo content and how much the camera compresses...
Yep. It's been open for a couple of months. Its about a block closer to town than Chedrui. I looks nice, but was very slow when I was in Cozumel six weeks ago.

What type of drysuit were you using and what type of insulation? I just got my new DUI TLS350 and I'm heading up for a Vision trip in September. I've got the DUI Stretchliner and the 200g Thinsulate jumpsuit. I figure that the 200g will be fine, but I can layer it with the...
I didn't get any publishable supermacro pictures of these guys, but I thought that this anemone with more than a half-dozen Squat Anemone Shrimp was cool.

I like the look of this guy. It looks like he is ready to pounce. He also has a...
Hi Southernblue,
Good pics. Looks like you didn't have too much trouble with backscatter.
One thing you might do in your posting is to put a hard return or blank line between each picture insertion so that they line up vertically and not horizontally. That will make it easier for the...
Octopi are great! I love it when you catch them at night sitting upright on top of a coral head like they are all proud of themselves. They remind me of cats when they do that.
One night dive, we saw eight in the first half of the dive.
By then, just another octopus wasn't reason...
We were out hunting seahorses in the plants and did find a single one. I think they lied. I didn't find a couple of sharptail eels. This guy just kept coming straight at me. I wish that my strobes had been aimed a little higher. Still, I like the detail of his face and neck.
I've...
Hi Cheddar
There is no need for basic cenote diving. Its cavern diving, not cave diving. For the basic trips, you're always within sight of light (the surface). For cave certified divers, you can do more technical penetrations - or work on getting your certifications.
As long as you...
We dove with Yucatek and were quite happy. One of my other friends has also used them a couple of time. I think our guide was names Stephan.
They're a good operation. They also run a good whaleshark outing.

Let them know that I steered you there way if you book with...
I'm finally processing/uploading the pics from last month's trip to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. In PDC, we dove Chac Mool/Kukulkan and Dos Ojos.
I'll have to check my notes, but I think that this is Kukulkan.
This photos shows the halocline (interface of fresh water and salt water)...
I don't think that the wetsuit undergarment would work. Neoprene is made to trap water to keep you warm (when used as a wetsuit). Drysuit undergarments are designed to trap air among the fabric fibers to keep you warm.
Can't hurt to try, though. If it doesn't work, you can just abort the...
Not bad for snapshots during a quick fly-by. I know what you mean about the current. I just got back from my first visit to Cozumel (stayed at ScubaClub Cozumel) and found their flavor of drift diving to be quite brisk. Some of my friends talk about how great it is to not have to work (ie...
I'm going back to Maui again in December. I've used Ed Robinson's many times, in fact, I've probably done the exact same three tank that you did.
Where did you go shore diving? We always stay in Kaanapali. The only shore diving that I have done is Black Rock. One of my friends said that...
As to whether the D80 or D200 is better for the OP's needs, I can't say.
The D70 and D80 are definitely different generations. The D80 inherited a large portion of it design and electronics from the D200. Its kind of a D200 light (literally, and spec-wise). The D80 is a significant...
Welcome aboard Diane.
I'm the guy from Divebums who steered you in this direction. If anybody can answer your questions, these guys probably can. Another resource is www.wetpixel.com in the dSLR forum.

I don't really see the Sigma 12-24 mentioned very often. I would recommend the Tokina 12-24. Most reviews say that it is 95% as good as the Nikon for 50% of the cost. I have the Tokina, but I can't really give a good comparison to the Nikon.
I wouldn't base a housing choice around keeping...
