Great shots. Did you us any kind of half diopter for the over-under photo? You had very good focus on the top and bottom. What lens did you use for it? Manual or automatic focus? The manual focus idea just occurred to me. I haven't tried it on my over-under attempts.

Very funny, in that I was just sending you a PM over on D2D.
Jeff (kidsdream) took the underwater photo of me on a trip to the Channel Islands. Perhaps you don't want the credit due to the lack of sharp focus and poor lighting. Viz was pretty bad that day.

DUI does do custom suits in navy blue tri-lam, but I thought that would be massive overkill for the color theme. And the pads and pockets would still be black. I also could have done a blue overlay and orange trim. That would have looked nice, but I like the visibility of the orange.
What...
Here it is. The blue piping is at the edge of the orange overlay. As I said, you wouldn't notice it unless you knew to look for it.
The orange color definitely makes it easy to find me under water, even when I am hidden behind my camera.
I found the DUI hoods to be smaller than expected. I had to get an XL and I never thought that I had a big head. I have the warm neck hood, but I prefer the regular hood unless the water is really really cold because it allows more flexible neck movement. If you're in Tuscaloosa, where do you...
I am looking for weight pockets for a total of 10-12 lbs of weight (5-6 lb per side) that can be mounted on the waist strap of my DSS BP and Wing.
Besides my pockets, my alternatives are a weight belt or a DUI harness.
Feel free to comment on what I should do with the remaining 10 lbs of...
I have have an old Olympus Stylus 400 that I am getting rid of. It could be used for parts or possibly as a backup. I doubt that anybody is using one of these underwater anymore, but if you are, you can have this one for the cost of shipping.
I do not have a housing for it.

I ended up choosing Nikon because my father-in-law had a Nikon and he owns some of the more expensive lenses that I can't afford - but can borrow!
Since choosing Nikon, I've been comparing the features of the new Nikons and Canons as they come out and have still been happy with my choice of a...
Good point about keeping both cameras. That hadn't occurred to me because I can only afford to upgrade if I sell the old setup.
I do like the D90 a lot, just not enough to spend the money.
David
I thought about that a little bit. If Ike sold a D90 backplate, perhaps it costs $500. After all, it probably takes almost as much work/money/time to make that part as the front part because of the electronics and the number of machining and assembly operations.
You could sell your old D80...
Thanks for the update. Hopefully Santa is bringing me a DSS setup.
Can a backplate be taken on the plane as part of your carry on luggage? It might be handy to move that 5-6 lbs from the checked luggage to the carry-on.

I think that you might have fun using the movie setting on your camera. You won't realistically be able to take decent wide angle photos, but the movies might look nice with the flashlights illuminating the cavern and divers backlit by the surface light. The movie mode might do better with...
Wouldn't that be touching it with a 6 inch pole?
Ok. I'll just quietly step away from the keyboard.
I'm getting a DSS setup for Christmas and can't wait to dive it!

Buy The New Guide to Sea and Sea. It might cost more than your camera! It is an excellent guide to the camera and its features.
My first UW camera was an MX-10. Sadly, I got as digitals were coming up and paid $600, just to sell it for a quarter of that in a year when I bought a digital...
This is my favorite barracuda photo - from Key Largo. This bad boy was hanging out under our dive boat between the pontoons while all of the divers were returning.

Another vote for the Tokina 17-70. It does require a dome, though, which costs a few bucks, particularly for the better 8" domes. Its macro capabilities are pretty respectable for an all purpose lens.
If you want to get in cheaper and still have lots of fun, get a Nikon 60mm macro. It will...
