Suunto's new D9 - Air/Nitrox, USB cable, digi Compass, Watch

True, I do pay enough attention to have a reasonably accurate estimate of time, depth, gas, direction, etc... However, that doesn't mean that I want to lose everything at the same time.

    Is Team Diving Safe?

That's where this usually happens. Up here, I arrive with one or more of my regular buddies.

    Is Team Diving Safe?

Doesn't that assume that you are going to dive at all? If an operator asks me to buddy up with someone with whom I am not comfortable diving, I tell them "no, thanks". If they insist, I ask them to put me on their liability waiver and comp my dive. If they want me to act as a DM, then they...

    Is Team Diving Safe?

I am confident that my team members will be there for me. We train together, we work out our procedures, practice them and make sure that they are followed throughout the dive. The last time I discussed this issues was yesterday on a boat out to a dive site. We discussed the plan in detail...

Suunto's new D9 - Air/Nitrox, USB cable, digi Compass, Watch

Just the brochures that Suunto has sent to the LDS. It's a neat gadget, but I wouldn't consider using it. The last thing I want is to be depending on a single device, the failure of which will cause me to lose access to all of the information that I need to complete the dive.

    Computers & Vision Issues

Can't help much with the computer (I use a OMS bottom timer and a Stinger in gauge mode, neither of which could be classified as particularly easy on the eyes). However, I enthusiastically recommend prescription masks. I use one and absolutely love it.

    Coolest piece of gear

My buddy's Gavin scooter is the absolute coolest piece of gear I've seen. I like it so much that I'm planning to get one later this year. On a more practical level, my wife gave me a Cressi Matrix prescription mask. I can see perfectly without my contact lenses, it seals like a dream and...

Sometime – It’s Just One Things After Another…

Absolutely the smartest policy. I've been doing this for some time, and I don't exceed mine either. Exceeding limitations, training and comfort level is the first step on a one way trip to a body bag. I haven't read Shadow Divers yet. I have read The Last Dive. Its an extreme example of...

How do you get purchases by your spouse?

I don't have any problems with this issue. My wife is a warm water diver. She knows what the gear is for, even if she can't understand why I would possibly want to schlep it around. She handles the checkbook. I tell her what I'd like to buy, how much it will cost and check that we don't...

Sometime – It’s Just One Things After Another…

I agree that the purpose of the forum is to learn. However, the only way to do that is to analyze the events, identify the root cause of problems and determine how to solve them. It does absolutely no good to hold a virtual group hug, congratulate all involved on surviving a close one, write...

Sometime – It’s Just One Things After Another…

I agree. They aren't complicated and can be calculated reasonably quickly. My question was in response to someone who uses the tried and true "exit the water with 500 psi" as their "plan". :11: I'm simply asking that person to tell us how many cubic feet of gas a diver, and a buddy...

Swapping regs/hoses - is damage possible?

I certainly understand. I try not to concentrate too hard on what I've spent on equipment and training. With regard to the o-rings, just make sure that they are the right size. With regard to the pressure test, that's exactly what I mean. Put the reassembled reg on a tank, turn it on...

Swapping regs/hoses - is damage possible?

I bought the reg sets at the same time that I bought my doubles. I kept my singles reg dedicated to singles. Its not rocket science to change back and forth and its not particularly time consuming. It does require some degree of care in order to avoid cross-threading or other problems that...

    What's all this tubing for?

The tubing on the crotch strap allows you to secure the scooter ring (which should be facing inward when you are not scootering) out of the way. I believe that the tubing on the waist belt is for securing the end of the waist belt after it is secured. I've never found another use for it...

my dive buddy is calling it quits for the year :(

I'm still hoping that the weather will hold. I spent two hours last night mixing gas for a trip to the U-Boat this Sunday. This will be my third dive on it this season. The first two were good, with the second one having the best vis I've ever seen on that wreck (35 feet) Last time I was...

Deep Sea Detectives.... why do I bother?

I agree. My wife and I are contemplating another trip to Bermuda in April, 2005. It was fun to see the places we visited last time. In addition, the wreck they were on looked interesting enough to warrant a dive.

my dive buddy is calling it quits for the year :(

I'm booked this weekend. However, I'll be diving until at least the end of November. What types of dives are you interested in doing?
