House involved in a hit & run.

You're not taking advantage of the situation if you report the incident to your insurance carrier, as well as the driver's carrier, and arrange for an inspection to be carried out. While I'm sure that Bob is probably right, it's better to be safe than sorry. Besides, there might be more to...

Who has been the provider on a real OOA?

I was the donor. The diver was not calm. She signaled, then grabbed the primary as soon as it cleared my mouth. She was fine on the ascent

HID light capabilities for wreck diving

I use an 18W focusable HID light for all of my diving, including wreck diving. I used to use a 10W non-focusable light. The ability to focus down to a narrow beam is key. It doesn't eliminate scatter and reflection cause by silt, but it does reduce it.

Famous Last Words of SCUBA Divers.....

Don't worry, I saw them do this on Deep Sea Detectives.

Pony Bottles: Good or bad...where to wear them etc

Since we've reopened the thread: I'm not a big fan of pony's. This thread is one of many reasons why. http://www.scubaboard.com/t74063-sometime-–-it’s-just-one-things-after-another….html Instead of relying upon a pony, I prefer manifolded doubles. If a person is going to use a...

    a few DIR questions

The DIR system advocates wrist mounted gauges so as to maximize streamlining, minimize the risk of entanglement and keep the gauges where you can easily see them while in a horizontal position. Since your arms are out in front of you when diving in this position, mounting gauges on your wrist...

    Making Money With Scuba

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I'd be careful. Technically, if you're being paid for the work, you are probably engaging in commercial diving, which (1) is governed by many rules, including OSHA regs; and (2) has unique challenges that may require specialized gear. For example...

    School violence

I spent a few days in Wilmington taking depostions about 2 years ago. It struck me as a nice place to live and a fun place to visit. I hope that you enjoy the move.

    School violence

The police are usually quite effective. In a nice area, it is exceedingly likely that you would never have a reason to draw. However, I carry because there is a chance, however unlikely, that the police will not be around when I need them. I'm not particularly concerned about a problem in...

    School violence

Why do you hate an inanimate object? Do you hate the gun or the animal that uses it to commit crimes? I can't speak directly to Wilmington as I've only been there once (nice city, btw). However, I can tell you that everyone in the US does not have a firearm. By way of example, when my...

How to rescue a non-breathing diver?

No. If you already know the protocol for ascending an unconscious, non-breathing diver, activating EMS, performing rescue breaths on the surface, moving the diver to a place where it is possible to initiate CPR, administering O2, using an AED and managing the rest of the accident until EMS...

    School violence

Some pistols, particularly including 1911's and clones, have a safety that will prevent the pistol from firing if there is sufficient presure on the muzzle of the firearm. You don't need to move it back much. Neither my S&W's nor my H&K's have this safety. You'd need to move the slide back...

    School violence

I'm glad to hear that your daughter is OK. This is the kind of thing that worries me. My daughter is only two years old, so I've got a few years to go. However, like Mike Ferrara, I remember the fights that occurred on a regular basis in my school. No one had knives or guns. We fought...

    Time dif.

If you can't carry an AL80 comfortably, then consider using the smaller tank. Remember, however, that the AL80 is practically neutral once it is in the water. If you are divng off of boat, then you will only be hauling the AL80 a short distance and it may be worth the inconvenience. If you...

    2nd stage necklace

Is this a question? There are hundreds of posts on the long hose. There are links in this thread to a few. Rather than rehash them here, a search should yield all the information you need.

    2nd stage necklace

I've never seen the configuration you are describing. While it is rather common is for a diver to have a 7 foot primary hose, to which the primary second stage is attached, and a short (24", I think) hose connected to the bungeed backup regulator, I can't imagine any justification for the...

    Streamlining SPG

If it were me, I'd suggest moving everything except for the SPG to your wrist, then tie a bolt snap to the SPG and clipping it off. Depending on what gear you've got on your console, it may be possible to purchase wrist mounts that will accommodate it. If not, a wrist mounted Bottom Timer is...

my dive buddy is calling it quits for the year :(

That's too bad. We did get out on Sunday morning. We had two foot seas and negligible surface current. After my buddy and I dropped, we picked up a slight current below 100 fsw running from bow to stern. Vis was 10 - 15 feet at the stern, 25 or so at the bow. We did two complete...

Suunto's new D9 - Air/Nitrox, USB cable, digi Compass, Watch

Why are you assuming that my comment is a mantra? I don't like AI computers and I like redundancy. I also don't see any real reason to pay that kind of money for something that I'm going to set to gauge mode (assuming that its got one) anyway. That said, it's a nice piece of technology...
