    skipping tech pre-requisites.

The starting point would probably be to check the course requirements. I'd be a bit leery of someone who was telling you that you can skip required courses. With the GUE Tech I course, that may not be an issue. I believe that DIR-F is required, or at least strongly suggested, but that's...

There rules to tying something to the anchor line?

I wouldn't try to surface a heavy item using my BC. That's why I've got a lift bag, which has something like 80 lbs of lift. If I can't lift it with that, my buddy's got her lift bag. If we can't lift it using those, then its way too heavy to put on the anchor line. Personally, I wouldn't...

Buddy missing on surface - What would you have done?

What would I have done? 1. Adequate pre-dive planning, including the order in which the divers would proceed, a discussion of signals, turn pressures, identification of the person who would "direct" the dive, separation procedures, light signals, goals/objectives, planned run times, etc...

Are you doing this on doubles or a single?

Your opinion on configuring a pony

That's fine. I never said that he wasn't a nice guy or that people haven't enjoyed diving with him. As for greeting people, 4,000 smilies doesn't matter when Murphy comes calling. As for summarizing that rather long thread, any attempt at summary might have resulted in claims that I did so...

Snorkel or no snorkel and why

I stopped using one on Dive 5. I'm a diver, not a snorkler. If I need to swim on the surface, I do it on my back. Finally, it would interfere with with deploying a stage reg (not an issue when I first started, but it would be today).

Your opinion on configuring a pony

Ya think? FWIW, I'm not making fun of anyone. Instead, I offer the link as a warning. The thread epitomizes everything that I don't like about pony bottles, especially back mounted pony bottles. It also demonstrates the consequences of poor gas management, training, planning and decision...

Your opinion on configuring a pony

My initial response would be "Don't." However, if you insist, then I'd suggest rigging it as a stage bottle, with the reg where you can see it, and the bottle in a position to remove easily if necessary. This will also allow you to charge the reg, then turn the bottle off. This prevents...

Saved my DM at 80ft. in Palau

Nice work. I've never seen a tank o-ring fail underwater. I'm willing to bet that it was pretty spectacular. I think that I'll replace my DIN o-rings this weekend. Its a bit early, but your story prompts me to action.

    Nitrox

Yes, but its not particularly deliberate. I don't have tanks that are dedicated for pool work. When I need to go to the pool, I grab one of my singles and go. My default fill for singles is EAN32, so that's what I use. I've allowed to fill my own tanks at the LDS, so its actually more work...

    Nitrox

Nitrox will not change your SAC rate. That said, Nitrox is very beneficial. It lowers your N2 load for a particular depth and time. In other words, you will have less nitrogen in your system if you dive Nitrox32 to 60 feet for 30 minutes than if you did the same dive on air. Thus, there is...

    Perceived value and can lights

Visual confirmation that I've remembered to connect the battery connectors? Before this gets too far out of control, I'm not trying to suggest that there is anything wrong with Terkels. If the people who use them find them reliable, and they are pleased with the performance, then I'm not...

    Perceived value and can lights

You're right. When I said reflector, I meant the reflector/lens housing/everything in front of the ballast. Either way, its an easy replacement. I've got an extra left over when I added an expedition handle. I keep it around just in case.

    Perceived value and can lights

I was thinking about this a bit more. It finally occured to me that I had omitted a couple of points. First, I'm not convinced that incorporated parts into a single piece is a good thing. By way of example, consider the belt strap. On the Halcyon, its a piece of webbing held onto the...

85-0? Where are all the NE divers?

Its the date. I've got a new drysuit that I'm looking to test. Unfortunately, Friday is not an option. I'll probably end up making the trek to Jamestown on Saturday to test the DS and check the salt water weighting for my scooter.

    Perceived value and can lights

Track Record. Before buying my Helios 13.5, I dove with many people who use Halcyon lights. I also had experience with other Halcyon products and was quite pleased. Finally, when I was looking around at lights, Cory at Halcyon spent about 1/2 hour answering my questions. He did so in an...

In my left front pocket. We live in a low crime area. I aim to keep it that way.

    Fraud

You're not going to send him to jail for at least two reasons. First, it he is convicted, the Court, not you, will sentence him. Second, for all the fancy terms (criminal larceny, etc...), the Courts aren't all that likely to sentence him to jail time unless there's quite a bit more to the...
