Master Diver - PADI & NAUI

It will depend on what you really want and of course, on the instructor(s). I'm a PADI Master Diver (and a Divemaster) and I enjoyed every one of the classes and gained a lot of knowledge along the way. However, one of my specialties (UW Naturalist) was kind of a joke due to the fact that the...

    Oregon Divers

Most of us Portland/Vancouver divers head to Seattle or Hood River to dive. There are a few spots on the Oregon coast to dive but conditions can be dicey. I've been diving for almost 4 years and the only dives I've done in Oregon were at Clear Lake. I'm sure you can find some other lakes that...

Whats your thought on the Suunto Computer

I have 298 dives on my Cobra and I love it. It's a pretty conservative computer which can only be good. I bought a Suunto Mosquito to wear as a back up (about 80 dives on it now) and love it as well. Have had no problems with either. I know there have been a couple of threads about the...

    Bonne Terre

I dove there in July of 2004 and was very disappointed....That I couldn't dive there again this year! I originally signed up for the first 2 dives and ended up doing a third which was fantastic. I am a Critter Watcher from the word go, so it was with a little trepidation that I signed up for...

    Painful Fingernails After Diving

Do you keep your fingernails really short? I find that my fingernails hurt right after I've cut them very short. Once they've grown just a bit they don't bother me at all. Don't know if that's your problem but it is something I've noticed.

    Hello from KC!

Hi! Welcome to ScubaBoard and to diving. My family lives in St. Louis so I have occassion to go back there at least once a year. You should definitely plan a dive to the Bonne Terre Mine. It's a little pricey but well worth it. It's truly awesome. If you are ever up in the Pacific...

    Any vegetarians out there?

Vegetarian for 27 years. Still eat dairy products. Tried to go vegan but it is too hard with my schedule and lifestyle. Like Dive-aholic I'm selective in the dairy I eat-rennet-free cheese, Omega-3 enriched eggs that are free range, organic milk, always check packaging to make sure there are...

    Cutaneous Decompression Sickness

Did 2 dives today without incident. Whew! First dive maximum depth was 61'. Dive time 58 min. Did very long, slow ascent and spent a good amount of time at 25-30' and a nice long safety stop. Second dive maximum depth was 52'. Dive time 73 min. Again did long, slow ascent, extended time...

    Cutaneous Decompression Sickness

The Medic highly recommended that I start using Nitrox on all dives. It is my understanding that the advantage is that I would not be Nitrogen loading as much with Nitrox as with air. Less Nitrogen = less chance of DCS. Is this not true?

    Locking your luggage

Since 9/11 whenever I fly I just use zip ties. It provides a tiny bit of security & the TSA can remove them if needed and will replace them if they do. If you have locks on the luggage that they have to break, I'm not sure if they then secure them with zip ties or leave them unsecured after...
