Apeks high profile vs low profile

There were reliability issues with the first generation low profile apeks dump valves. Those issues have been fixed. The high and low profiles are equally as reliable as the other. I prefer the lower profile, it helps to clear the shoulder straps getting in and out of my harness. You can't go...

Why no weight pockets with doubles?

I couldn't have agreed more with the above statement. I will caveat to say this is how you begin falling down the rabbit hole. What I mean by that is, you will realize the benefits of proper weight distribution. You will ultimately end up with multiple plates, tanks, and misc gear. Forever...

Expertise Needed: Lift bag & safety sausage mounted on BP&W

I never said I have an issue distinguishing between colors. But when the rubber meets the road, I don't have to even look. 1, I am fine. 2, send help. They could be any color of the rainbow. What if I gave you an orange and a red. At depth in NJ waters do you think you could reliably tell me...

    trimming a latex wrist seal

Sounds like you got the right idea. Just make one continuous cut as straight as possible. That's it. Pretty simple. I cut a little at a time. You can always cut more. You can't cut less.

Expertise Needed: Lift bag & safety sausage mounted on BP&W

In my circle, we do not use color (the first thing you lose at depth) or shape. We carry multiple dsmb's. They vary in shape and color from diver to diver. If I see one bag hit the surface, all is fine, it's just a diver marking his position or starting a stop. We will monitor that single bag...

    Who is still diving?

Zero interruptions in my local/regional diving. I have had 4 trips canceled outside of my region. It helps when you own a boat. Looking at the situation in totality, I haven't really been impacted in a significant manner. Life, work, and play are in very rural areas. I guess that's the benefit...

My Dundies, or can I get “fundies style” education?

I can't imagine any competent instructor would turn you away. You just need to open up some lines of communication. Scuba diving isn't the military. It is a recreational sport. Some might have stern methods of teaching. But the sport is ever evolving. Focus on the instructor and less the agency...

Adding weights to the back of backplate setup

Do swimming pools count? Sometimes it nice to have the option to relieve one's self without having to glue things.

My Dundies, or can I get “fundies style” education?

I have a friend from Germany whom sought certain certifications from here. He has had nothing but excellent things to say. I'm not advertising, just trying to help you with options. | InnerSpace Explorers Wish you well in your endeavors!

Adding weights to the back of backplate setup

Not to get into a measuring contest, but I dive in New England waters year round. Wet and dry. Sounds like you're searching for a solution to a problem that exists due to lack of mobility or skill, or both. Leaning back is the answer to your question. You could reconfigure your gear. Get a...

Adding weights to the back of backplate setup

I don't add weight. I just change my position. What I mean by that is: Fully inflate my wing. Then I bring my knees closer to my chest. Think sitting in a chair. That allows me to shift my weight backward. Holding me in an extremely comfortable position with my head clear out of the water. I...

There are regional forums on the board. You are better trying there. Most divers that go to Dutch springs are from NY, NJ, and PA. Try this forum. Pennsylvania / New York / New Jersey

Cape Cod... too dangerous or okay?

I caught a 6ft juvenile GW last week. 9 miles SE of Block. Obviously, catch and release. Wasn't the target species we were after.

    HP 100 cost?

Quick call to my local shop. They are able to order galvanized Faber 100's. I'd imagine there aren't too many US suppliers. So they all probably come from the same warehouse that yours would. The price between a 100 and a 120 was $43. The 100 being the cheaper of the two.

    HP 100 cost?

A tank is a tank. Buy them used and save some money for gas fills. Being from Florida you should have no problems finding multiple sets of hp100's on Facebook, Craigslist, the forum here, or where ever else you want to search.

    Ultima Dry Glove System question

That photo shows Ultima system, and a DUI zip system. That's where the confusion is. They are independent systems. You just happen to mount your Ultima rings to a DUI zip seal. Which then zip seals itself to your suit.

    Probably stupid question

https://www.blockislandtimes.com/article/man-dies-diving-german-u-boat-seven-miles-east-island/19502 These were the earliest recorded fatalities I could find of the 853. Maybe one of them if someone wanted to do some digging and see what they could find.
