blue steel valve for sidemount. Blanking plugs?

That would be my right side tank. I orient the reg at the bottom, valve handle sticking out to the right. You'll find that as you ask folks about their SM configurations, you'll get a lot of different answers. I like my way, others like theirs. You have to find yours. That may be via a...

blue steel valve for sidemount. Blanking plugs?

Off the top of my head, I can't remember where the burst plugs are. It's irrelevant to the way I do it anyway. FWIW, I do all my SM tanks the way I described, regardless of the type of valve. I don't think there's another way to do it. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

blue steel valve for sidemount. Blanking plugs?

I have some of those valves. I orient the tanks so that the valve handles are out and I wrap the bungees around them. No problem. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

Rent a dive computer or buy cheap till I can afford a shearwater Petrel?

The point was tables. Generic NAUI or PADI tables work fine. V Planner yields safe, conservative tables as well. And it's easy to use. Computers are great but you can do some amazing diving without one. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

Rent a dive computer or buy cheap till I can afford a shearwater Petrel?

I use a dive rite gauge reader mask. It has 2.0 diopter bifocals ground in. Not quite my prescription but good enough. If all you are experiencing is age related close reading degeneration, they will probably be just fine. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

Buy the drysuit or take the class first?

If the class is free, take it. If not, find a mentor and learn the way most of us did. The best advice has been previously stated: whichever way you decide, try to rent as many different types of suit you can and buy the right one the first time. These things are expensive and there are many...

Rent a dive computer or buy cheap till I can afford a shearwater Petrel?

What you really need are dive tables and a watch. If you really want to get fancy, download Vplanner and cut custom tables for each dive. At your frequency of diving, any computer in general, and a Petrel in particular, is over kill. You might consider a Nitrox course. They can be had very...

DIve Conditions at St Andrews Jetties

I dove the jetties 2 weeks ago on an incoming tide, about 4 hours before high tide. Water temp was mid sixties, viz about 30'. Started on the beach side and went around the jetty for a nice drift dive to about 30' deep. Then up and over the rocks and into the kiddie pool for egress. Had it to...

    Great Thermal Protection...

Right on time post. I getting ready for a Thunder Bay trip and need/want a different undergarment. I have a Weezel Extreme. The warmth is fine but I hate the buoyancy, I need plenty of lead when in my Meg. How is the buoyancy of this rig compared to the Weezel? Bulk? I can't get the weezel...

Where was your first 2013 dive?

A beautiful, pristine cave on the Choctawhatchee River in Washington County, FL. Lots of fossils, bones, goethite, and limestone scalloping. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

    Most Significant Living Divers

Add George Perez to the list. At 86, he'll still backroll into 4 feet seas with a speargun and come back with dinner. George has been teaching OW diving for a long time and was an early cave instructor and dive buddy with Sheck. And most importantly, he is a living encyclopedia on regulators...

What is the brightest LED dive light with a narrow angle I can buy?

Look at the Light Monkey 12 watt LED. Packs quite a punch for its size. Light Monkey 21 Watt LED for a super bright, tight beam. UWLD-26 LED for a HUGE bright beam. Not a tight beam though. Dive Rite has a nice assortment as well. I've used all three LM, HELD, and DR - are all stellar...

Neoprene neck seal - water getting in when air escapes?

I learned through trial and error that neoprene neck seals have a sweet spot in the fold. To much or to little tuck and they'll leak. Once I discovered the spot, I've been it had an issue. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2

The best and worst of your dry suit

Main suit is a Pinnacle Black Ice. My first neoprene suit, and it is my best suit. Neoprene neck seal, latex wrists. I stay warm and dry with thin undergarments. The bad is the zipper durability. I've already had it replaced. Back up suit is my second Bare HD Tech Trilam. Great suit too...

Dive shop requirements for equipment purchases

You still haven't named one. That's because there isn't one. Liability potential is a separate issue. Not one manufacturer has any policy requiring a buyer to be certified. :D Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
