    Sidemount pouch

I took a look at all the options, and having owned 511 products already, I'm going to go with the 10.6 Horizontal Pouch as I know the quality in their products. @Shoot, thanks for the suggestion, I have a strong distaste for Velcro though. Thanks everyone! -- RH

    Problems with chat

And if your Java is already up to date? There are often times when I copy something and go to paste it in chat, it pastes what I copied the time before, not what I last copied. Only solution seems to be rejoining the chat. On a few occasions, I have had the chat just freeze, forcing you to...

    Hollis 25lb or 38lb wing

I can oral inflate my S38 with just as much ease as any other wing in it's lift class, they wouldn't make it if it was "very difficult if possible at all." Either way, the internal bungee is removable, not that I would remove it. -- RH

    Sidemount pouch

Thanks, gearhound. Just what I was looking for. I'll sew on another point for a bolt snap, and add some fixing points on the inside.

    Sidemount pouch

To any of you DIY people out there or just those who don't want to pay $75 for a pouch, what cheaper options are there for sidemount pouches? My spare mask and roll up snorkel need to go someplace, heh. Thanks -- RH

Do I need a STA with a Hollis ss plate?

Donning was the incorrect word, sorry, eelnoraa answers your question though. Perhaps it was just me, but I noticed a difference in stability.

Do I need a STA with a Hollis ss plate?

    More secure and easier donning.

Do I need a STA with a Hollis ss plate?

While not needed, I paid the extra buck and noticed a difference.

Hollis Solo - Weight belt, harness or pockets?

You could do a few things; You can get a stainless steel backplate (5 pounds), V weight pocket, weighted STA, or try a varity of weight pockets as mentioned above (I use these on my Hollis bp/w), something I find much more compact than the Hollis weight system. As a slim teen, I had the same...

    Empty boat sinks during dive

Indeed, and that person likely could make a difference if they are familiar with the vessel. Perhaps it was something as simple as the drain plug being left out, who knows. Can't imagine that it applies to leaving a boat unattended in general, it would be impossible to enforce that. If such a...

My 16 year old son is now diving.

While you did say he is getting a bunch of dives under his belt, I suggest focusing on doing just that; improving the skills he has been taught rather than participating in additional courses at this point. However, if you are looking at other courses, it is just specialties and the Master Scuba...

    Aqualung Legend LX

That regulator is discontinued, the shop obviously has it priced to sell fast. 2014 price guide has suggested retail for the reg at $491, so there is a bit of a deal. I do agree with you though, I personally wouldn't buy Hollis regs due to the amount of plastic they have, I'd go for Apeks over...

    Aqualung Legend LX

When it comes to the quality, just keep in mind the type of alternative air source you would want/expect your buddy to have. In the case of an emergency, that is your lifeline. Therefore if you cheap out on an octo (not saying you are), it's your buddy who is losing out. Don't think just because...

    Empty boat sinks during dive

As said by Tiger, in the real world, such redundancy is not always possible, and in most cases; unneeded. While it is arguable that a tender may have been able to keep the boat afloat by pumping the water out, the cause of this doesn't seem preventable in the case of who is on board. But...

Advice for getting dives done to start DM program

Pardon us, we jumped to assuming you meant diving alone. Could you answer a few questions to fill us in, and avoid us from jumping to conclusions? How many dives do you have, what agency are you interested in going through, what is your current certification level, etc. Then from there, one...

Advice for getting dives done to start DM program

Wanting to become a DM quickly is one thing, but to want to get the dives in quickly and alone is not going to help you any bit in the long run. As said above, find out when your dive shop has groups going out. Observe the DM or diver in charge of that group if you get the change to go out...

    Hollis SMS 100D

Something tells me this isn't for sale still..., so it's not really the best thread to rate the SMS100 on, as you are just bumping the thread of something that is likely no longer for sale.
