I usually think that if I'm within 45 feet of the surface, and my buddy wants to peel off and get on the boat, it's ok. If you can keep a bead on the boat, and you're just poking around without going deep again, you're fine. Buddies are really key at your experience level (mine too) but you...

You can wear a snorkel, as long as you have a 2nd snorkel for redundancy, and both are clean for nitrox. :rofl3: Just be sure you know how to shut down one snorkel and switch to the other.

I agree--I mean, no matter WHAT equipment you use, everyone looks clumsy and out of place in the water...We're land mammals, completely out of our element. But if you're a dork diver, you're careless and going to die if you even LOOK at the water... :D

It sounds like she stuck within 7 feet of the guy--that ain't ditching him. It's about 1 kick cycle, easy to do in less than 1 breath.

The Oceanic VEO lines (I have a 180) are NOT designed for deco diving, they're a rec tool. Any SI calculations or safety stop extensions these computers give are, and should be, very conservative, as the computer, and the average diver who uses said comptuer have NO business in deco.
