    Name These Valves?

Hey everyone. They don't mention J valves anymore in training, at least not in my OW or AOW class. Can you just get new valves? I don't have J valve tanks, just too much curiousity. :dork2:

    Compass basics... the lubber line.

Hold up the bus--there are degrees of declination, and I use them when I am lost in the woods of North Canada...Or I am hunting bear in Florida....Divers need to focus on the lubber line. Trust me. Unless you happen to have enough air in your tanks for a 200 mile drift dive. You got that...

Looking for Dive Shop recommendations in Cape Cod

yeah, what he said-- I've had tremendous luck with Cape Cod Dive Locker, in equipment repair, purchase and rental. The owner is a very mellow, helpful guy. There is also a beach off Wood's Hole that divers call "Garbage Beach" which I have not yet dove.

    Stone fish sting

Wow. I've been diving in the Red Sea, Caymans and the Bahamas...and I have never heard of these species. I guess I better just be glad I don't touch stuff... Also, based on this thread, I'm going to start carrying a knife when I dive...But I'll leave it on the boat. The very thought of you...

Need Government's Permission to visit Titanic

Well, it's pretty silted, so you have to move slow. If you don't feel up to it, I'll give you a few dishes I have collected. Consider it a gift. And if anyone else decides to take the plunge, make sure your fins and knife are 02 clean. It's a dealbreaker.

Diver dies as lobster mini-season begins

Really? I like to cut hoses more than steal fins. It makes me feel like I'm in some '60s era spy movie. What can I say? I like to kick it old school.

    Too ill to dive

Yeah, that immodium thing isn't diving medical advise, it's just plain medical advise--don't take it unless you have to. You're better off letting your body purge itself of the bacteria/virus/whatever. edit: I've been TOLD this by a doc. I'm not a medical professional.

    Shipping a tank?

They're going to charge you for having such heavy stuff, and they require the valve is removed. So basically you'll get this tank to your destination and will need to get it VIP'd and filled.

    Drysuit for the northeast

:newbie: Sorry, that was me. I posted about a O'Neil D.S. that I was thinking of buying on ebay. Got embarassed when I realized that size 14 in O'Neil's chart was for womens only gear. Appologies all around, Matt

    Drysuit for the northeast

I'm very curious about the O'neil suit because I'm hard to fit at 6 foot 140, but I dive around Boston, and I'm not sure it will be warm enough. Anyone had any experience with this? As is true of most super-skinny people, I do get cold very fast--When I dove the Poling last year, I only lasted...

First, be a better buddy. Second: Tighten your tank strap, and be sure to soak it before attaching the tank.
