    Things you've lost underwater

getting on my boat in one of the brackish backwater holes in St. Thomas... my only set of boat keys fell between the dock and the boat! Oh crap... Luckly the water was just deep enough to stand in... my the ground was mushy. Found the keys.

St Thomas US virgin Islands Anyone been there?

The virgin islands are a highly under rated dive area, you will like it a lot.

looking for GPS waypoints + descripts for USVI and BVI

Yes - the book you have has more than enough dive sites listed. I have been diving the BVI for 20 years and still haven't been to a few of the sites. I find that I have a few favorites I like to do many times. For every dive site that is listed in the book, there are eight which are not. The...

looking for GPS waypoints + descripts for USVI and BVI

There are places to rent tanks throughout the BVI... but you pay a "per day" tank rental and a "per fill" tank rental with the first fill being free. This means that on day one your cost for a tank will be like $5 but day two it will be maybe $5 for possession of the tank and $5 to fill the tank...

looking for GPS waypoints + descripts for USVI and BVI

All BVI dive areas (well most of the common ones) are moored and easily located. Just pick up a BVI dive book... you really won't need GPS coords. You simply go to where the dive flag is in the book and look for the moorings... they have different colors for different types of boats -...

    They're giving away our beaches!

We see this all the time in the caribbean... people build big houses or huts on the beach berm and then chop down all the vegetation so they can "have a great view". Well - what do you think is keeping the beach there you morons! Personally, I encourage growth of fauna and coconut trees to hold...

Wetsuit "collar" - *gasp!* - help?

I would seriously consider getting another or larger wetsuit. I would even go through the trouble of buying a hyperstrech of some kind if you are going to be doing a lot of diving in your area.

    fins for warm-water diving

I love my oceanic caribs for warm water diving. I also have Jet Fins and Aeris Velocity full-foot fins. I find them much easier to get in and out of than the jets. They also weigh A LOT less.

Just be sure to cover your privates, you don't want anything to be mistaken for a worm.

has anyone seen acropora prolifera out there?

Not so much these days. Here at the NSF we have articles out on the intranet saying how difficult it is to find any acropora these days. I do know of a "secret" place which had loads of acropora but when I went back a few years later I literal flotilla of moorings boats with their anchors draped...

question about water in pressure gauge

is that it occured at all... this is a high pressure device afterall. I would have your reg serviced as the water may have entered the whole regulator during the rinse or dunk.

    YMCA courses?

My sister works for the Y (Aquatics Director for a local one) and she had indicated that some Y's are moving more towards PADI style instuction. This might explain some of the differences.

    Absentee buddy

on the other hand, I think it's worthy of discussion with any dive buddy before the dive - we want to be prepared for a difference between a buddy surfacing because there is a problem and surfacing just because they sucked all their air. Also - I am a bit confused about your reason for...

    Dream come True!!

First things first... your friend oversteped his boundaries by inviting people along without your consent. I also have a boat that I take people on when I go diving... I don't worry about liability (it's takes the fun out of the dive) BUT I never invite people that I haven't dove with before. If...

Acura TL, BMW 330Ci, or Infiniti G35?

I had looked at the all-wheel drive Bimmer but again, I think they are very common cars... I worry about over-saturation of the used car market 5-6 years out.

    best charter in nc

what makes one charter more conservative than another? I went out with Olympus last year and I got max bottom time. If you mean they won't go do technical diving, I'm not entirely sure that's the case. If you mean they won't go out in 7 foot seas with 25 knots winds, I'm ok with that. If you...

    Where should I go ?????????

I do recommend the B/VI... it's not completely diver-oriented, but you could do the Cuan Law which is a liveaboard. There's lots to do topside without the "shizzle" of cancun. The BVI have great beaches (some of which are considered to be in the top ten by beauty), hiking, history, and lots...

    Hydroids and Bahama diving

Hydroids will often grow all over the mooring lines. They will "sting" you but you usually don't feel them for a couple of minutes. I even get stunk through my gloves. As gert7to3 pointed out - make sure she wears a full 1 mill suit and gloves. When doing your safety stop avoid dragging your...
