    Vortex Springs

Going down to Vortex next weekend to dive on the 18th and 19th of Jan with my LDS - MTSS (Middle Tennessee Scuba and Swim). Anyone else going? We'll have a pretty good group. Some are working on OW cert, some on Rescue. I'm just going to get the last few dives I need for Master Scuba Diver...

    Roatan for Non-Diver??

I thought West Bay beach was a fine beach. If your friend snorkels there is some decent snorkeling to be had there. Plenty of eats not too far away at West End Village, too. Spent the last day of a scuba trip on West Bay snorkeling, walking and relaxing -- letting all the nitrogen waft away...

What did you get for Christmas?

Finally redeemed some Christmas and birthday cash, checks and gift cards for an Olympus E-510 digital SLR. Not for U/W use right now, I'll continue to use my SP-350 for that. First new SLR I have bought since 1980, when my daughter was a newborn. ( A Minolta XD-11, btw)

What did you get for Christmas?

Yes! Between my birthday on the 16th and Christmas gifts I ended up with the entire 4 volume set of Sea Hunt. After watching the first few episodes I learned that if I get "rapture of the deep" I need to go to the decompression chamber. :11: :no Fun watching a childhood favorite. What...

Video of my first chamber ride

That's the first good look I've gotten of entering and exiting a chamber. Looks like pretty tight quarters. How do you get someone in that is in really bad shape? Get someone to assist and go in first and drag the patient in? Is it unusual to have a healthy buddy in the chamber with you...

    Moustaches & Masks...

I must trim a little off my mustache immediately below the nose. Otherwise I get a continual annoying leak. I use electric clippers, then shave the area. One of the razors with the two blade system fits just right. Looks perfectly normal when it's done, because the mustache is then the same...

    Capt. Kidd's Quedagh Merchant

Catalina Island off the coast of the Dominican Republic. Not too far off shore and in shallow water. Been snorkeling there before, several years ago. It is amazing that it had not been discovered and looted sooner.

    Question about equipment course?

I would have liked for the course to have been a little more hands on. But a good course. More oriented toward those that have no idea how the equipment they use works. Many have never even changed a tank o-ring. Good preventive information to keep you from having problems in addition to...

    Hi all from Italy

Yes! Though specific locations are unknown, Genoa (Genova) and also Turin (Torino) are mentioned as places of origin for that branch of the family.

    Vortex?

It's true that they had some training in the spring and so things were a little silted up when I was there. But I've also been to Blue Grotto and Ginnie Springs lately and on weekends and the murkiness was no where near Vortex. I have heard that they had an introduction of some fertilizer into...

    Vortex?

I was down there in early October. Nice enough folks, but the "gin clear" water they advertise was just not there unless you were actually down at or in the mouth of the spring. I've seen visibility just as good in the springtime in our local quarry (Martha's) here in Tennessee. Lack of...

    "full" size bed? coconut tree

Hey Will! Good to see you posting. Do you still have that MTSS t shirt (Middle Tennessee Scuba and Swim) that I gave you back in June? I was browsing these forums trying to cook up ideas for another trip to Roatan -- maybe in the spring. Perhaps we'll see you there. Doug Nashville, TN, USA

    best reg for upside down?

I'll frequently go upside down to peek in holes or just goofing off. My reg is completely dry and not expensive -- Aqualung Titan LX. For a long time I thought everybody's worked just like mine -- didn't know what a "wet" regulator was.

    Gekko temp questions!

I have the Gekko's half brother, the Vyper. I have seen real time temps also report as lower than when you review the dive. In the case of the Vyper, this also appears when you download the data to your PC and review it there. My Vyper is wrist mount and I think there is bit of delay in...

    Crystal River Friday

Be very careful to observe the rules about areas which require "idle speed" or "no wake" operation and avoid areas that are designated as sanctuaries for the manatees. I understand they take such rules very seriously there and there can be some pretty stiff penalties.

suit/components for Florida Springs in Dec

I just returned from FL spring country. As Netsloth said, water temps will be the same in December as in the rest of the year. 69-72 or so degrees. I tend to get a little chilled diving so I wore a 3mm fullsuit over a 5/3 hooded vest, 3mm gloves and my usual 5mm booties. I was with divers...
