    Nashville, TN area instruction experience?

I don't see how you could do any better than MTSS (Middle Tennessee Scuba And Swim) located in Franklin TN just a few minutes south of downtown. I'll be at Fred's quarry tonight with the Cool Springs Scuba Club -- I think I can confidently assert that most of their members use MTSS I've...

How far in advance do you plan?

I work by appointment and have things booked 4-6 months in advance so I MUST plan well ahead. Just booked a Fiji trip yesterday. The trip is the first week of November. That's about as close as I can cut it.

    Martha's report

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think about it being a three day weekend since all my weekends are three days long (mondays off for me). There were plenty out there on Sunday. I'll be there Thursday. Looks like I can get away from work at about 4 and fight the traffic out I-40. I'll bring...

Where have you seen the best visibility ever seen?

Thanks to the original poster for the interesting question and some fabulous photos. It looks like this thread took 12 posts to start to get off topic -- with posts calling other poster's friendly and innocently intended comments "BS" and trying to demonstrate their intellectual superiority...

Where have you seen the best visibility ever seen?

Best vis for me had been Blue Grotto near Williston, Florida, USA. Water was so clear you got the distinct impression that there was no water there. Other divers looked like they were hovering in mid-air. A narced diver (unlikely at BG's depths) might think they could remove their reg and...

    Martha's report

I took part I of Wreck Diver yesterday and the visability at Martha's was exceptional. Gotta go gather up stuff for part II today. Great weather topside too. Don't know why more were not out there. Fred, what do you charge for a non-diver just to come out and watch? cu doug

    Martha's report

I'll see you out there in about 3 weeks for wreck diver training with MTSS. It sure was nice a couple of weeks ago -- as nice as I have ever seen it. I can't get anybody to do the long swim out to the bus with me. Maybe next time. Thanks for the update.

Looking for a vid (odd question)

She wants to hear the bubbles, Pappy. Just no annoying commentary or music.

Whoever said you can't get rich diving, is a liar!

Yeah, it's got to be a tax writeoff. They need those spacious vehicles to haul tanks and other gear to training sites.

    Paraplegics and diving

Looks like Moolie got pointed in the right direction. Thanks The thought occured to me -- Has there been any attempt to adapt UW scooters for use by physically impaired persons to give them a little independence underwater? I know there are motorized wheel chairs that respond to the most...

Florida Sea Base seeking Scuba Staff

One has to look at this position to a great extent as an act of volunteerism. The monetary rewards certainly don't compensate for the number of hours put in. The real rewards are in guiding boys and young men on some of the most memorable adventures of their life and introducing many to an...

Funniest Diving quotes you have heard

I noticed a fellow on a dive boat once that was closely scrutinizing his regulator (black with a black hose) and his alternate (yellow with a yellow hose). After a bit, while holding his alternate, he says to his companion, " This one is mine, right?" Glad he wasn't paired up with me. God...

Puerto Vallarta or Cabo San Lucas?

I enjoyed them both. Agree that vis was a little better at Vallarta than at Cabo. More surge and surf near the Cabo site (Near Los Arcos) accounted for the decreased vis. The scenery topside from the dive boat was more visually appealing at Cabo.

    Nashville Diving

Tell me more about diving in the Caney Fork. I've not heard of anyone doing it. Drift diving? It seems like so much of it would be very shallow. But that's just my impression from trout fishing there.

    Martha's report

I suspect the visibility was pretty good this early in the year, wasn't it? I want to get out there before the weather gets too warm and the algae grows. About 3 more dives between me and Master Scuba Diver! And about the tour bus... It's marked with a buoy/float and is a bit of a swim...

Epcot dive quest - March 15th or 16th

Sounds good to me. Shoot me a personal message if you will. My daughter got married about a year and a half ago to a guy with a couple of kids that are just the right age to have a huge time at Disney. They've never been. We're making a week of it -- Pulling a couple of pop-up campers down...
