    Dumping weights......

Good god, I'd be planted in the mud if I packed that much lead. I barely use 10% in a drysuit.

    Dumping weights......

I have never had to drop weights, but very soon after certification, I did a dive with the two friends I certified with. Things took a turn for the worse, and on the surface the wife panicked, and I had to drop her weights for her before she went under. Then husband panicked in fear for his...

    Nitrox & Advance Nitrox

Blackwood, I see your point. But when does the instructor stop being responsible for what the diver does? I was in a car accident within a year of getting my learner's permit. It was entirely my fault, I disregarded what I'd been taught. Should my driving instructor have been held...

    Nitrox & Advance Nitrox

Blackwood, I certainly agree with you that Nitrox will turn around and bite you if you don't handle it with awareness. I just think in this particular course, dives are not necessary. Everything you need to know, needs to be known in the planning phase of the dive. Then you just dive the...

    Nitrox & Advance Nitrox

You are introducing narcosis. That's a whole new ball game. So what parallel do you draw between PADI Deep Diver and PADI Nitrox? What do you think dives would accomplish in a PADI Nitrox course? I'm curious why people think there should be dives in this particular case. I certified...

Instead of worrying about what "COULD" be, let's worry about what "IS". Shark finning, coral destruction, overfishing. These are proven problems, and far more concerning to me than a new reef that will be crawling with life in a few months, and "might" have a problem "someday".

::sighs:: Rik, it also states that China is managing to do in a few decades what it took the US as a whole a hundred years. The point is that China is destroying their environment. The US is not. We are managing our problems, and correcting them. Our air and environment is far cleaner now...

Vayu, Are you trying to say that PCBs created the alligator snapping turtle? I'm confused on what your point is. The alligator snapping turtle is not a mutant, it's an indigenous species...

I have not heard of these. Can you provide a link? [edit] Ah, you added a link. That's for a regular snapping turtle though, not a mutant zombie one. All I can find are "teenage mutant ninja turtles", but I'm hoping that's not what you are talking about. :p

Dr. Bill, as a resident of Colorado, I can tell you from experience that forest fires do not maintain squat. I lived through the fires we dealt with a few years back, and it was directly caused by people saying exactly that. Leave the woods alone, fire is natural, fire will clear it out...

Actually I think that honor belongs to the Chinese industrial complex right now, but thank you for showing your bias in the matter. And that reason works just fine for me, even if I could ignore their politics.

    Nitrox & Advance Nitrox

Removing the dive requirement just puts PADI in line with what NAUI was already doing, and entirely appropriate. Why do you need to do dives on Nitrox - to prove you can stay within your MOD? If you can't do that, you shouldn't have taken the course in the first place. A Peak Performance...

I think we should make artificial reefs out of the Greenpeace fleet. If I'm feeling nice at the time, I'd be willing to let the crews off first. The people who sank the O spent what, three years?, prepping the ship. I don't think PCBs are a concern. Greenpeace just has an axe to grind...

    Problems with AquaWorld

I dove with AquaWorld out of Cancun in Nov of 2004. I found the operation there to be top-notch, and well worth my time and money. I enjoyed every minute of it. That said, I have no experience with their Cozumel operation. It's entirely possible that they have either slipped tremendously...

Mask on top of head - Diver in distress?

I saw a diver in distress with their MOF once. Of course, the fact that they were thirty feet down might have been a contributing factor... I think mask retrieval and clearing skills are a bit more important than where you stick your mask, but then I don't take mine off until I'm back on...

    Diving Instructor death - Roatan

I was at the A1 Scuba show here in Denver this weekend, and Yolanda from AKR was there. I asked her about this. Of course, she was very evasive and tried hard to pretend that she hadn't heard anything, but in the end she confirmed that "something happened". She would not divulge anything...
