looking to get my first bc help please?

HOG regs is about as good as it gets. The DIN to Yoke adapter works just fine for regular scuba tanks. Also, there are PLENTY of recreational divers who dive a BP/W without a long hose, and many that dive WITH a long hose. I agree with the long hose stance on things, because while I use a...

    Tropical Storm Debby

With this tropical storm blowing through, what do you think it will do to the dive conditions from July 7th-14th? Think it'll settle by then? I come from the south, so I'm no stranger to bad vis, so anything over 10ft is fine by me, but I'd like to get the decent vis I'm paying for :)

    Regulator help! Inexperienced diver!

Contact Jim Lapenta. Get him to set you up with a HOG singles kit with a yoke adapter. But try to avoid the yoke adapter that comes with it from the factory Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

New Diver, and apparently quite an Air Hog. Tips on reducing air use?

Take a PPB class and dive a lot. You'll notice once you get your weighting correct and become more comfortable in the water that our SAC will drop tremendously Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    equalise so you can dive?

Just because you can equalize at shallow depths doesn't mean you'll not have problems at deeper depths. Likewise, it doesn't mean that you won't have a reverse block later on in the dive if the condition worsens Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    Suggestions for gear

You suffer from a condition many very new divers get, called "Ineedgearitis". It would probably be the worst investment of your life to buy gear if you're only going to use it once, or once a year. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

How, why and when did you become an instructor?

I'm sure 99.9% of the SCUBA instructors in the world knew they wouldn't be Bill Gates through that choice of career. But I'm sure it has it's perks, like getting to dive regularly and be around SCUBA enthusiasts all the time. I'm not an instructor, but I know quite a few.

    Air Consumption and Dietary supplements

Back when I played college football we had protein supplements for helping muscles re cooperate after workouts. But this, this would NEVER work. Plus, that stuff is real bad for you on its own

    Split fins ?

Is this Dive the World magazine? I bought like 5 diving magazines for my plane ride to Key Largo coming up and Dive the World was one of them. Some excellent photography in there, some of the best I've ever, ever, EVER seen. I really liked the story on the Red Sea!

    Weather :-(

How should the weather be around July 7th-14th? I realize that weather is very unpredictable and can change in seconds, especially around the coast and the Gulf. But what have the patterns been around that time?

Are Bull sharks a significant hazard around Tampa Bay?

You can legally do it, just keep one of those spears handy for any frisky sharks... I'm serious. Some of those ****ers were near the Perdido Pass jetties when I was using a pole spear, I nearly had to jab one.

    I am now disabled

For you, I would consider purchasing a scooter. It doesn't have to be blazing fast, just enough to give you enough propulsion so that your legs don't have to do all the work. As far as the drysuit goes, as long as you can get yourself dressed into undergarments (which I'm assuming is no...

Can people really get scuba certified without knowing how to swim?

There is none- you show up to class, review academics, go dive 6 times- boom, you're AOW

Anyone have trouble with online SCUBA store??

I've bought everything from BCDs to BP/Ws to full reg setups to computers, to fins and to masks online. But this is only when my LDS puts a ridiculous markup on the items. On most things they sell at cost, but with others, such as masks, fins and snorkels- they mark them up crazy high because...

    Split fins ?

DMD, I certainly agree with the "less cramps" statement. I've used a friends extra set of splits when a strap broke on my "light" pair for travel. They made me feel clumsy and actually made me INCLINED to bend my knees while kicking! This is coming from someone with over 200 dives and a kicking...

    Split fins ?

Go to your nearest Wal Mart, cut off two of those big flappy strips of clear rubber that you see where they put the carts to the length of fins. Duct tape them to a pair of shoes; hop in the water. Split fins.

    North Sea Fatality - Scotland
