You may have the wrong mental picture. Its not actually being tucked into the waist band. The SPG is clipped to the D-ring like it normally would be. You are just pushing it back to rest between your back and your backplate. It will eventually fall out on own, especially when using stages...
If its 5ft it should go under your right shoulder, accross your body, over your left shoulder, around the back of your neck then in your mouth.
If its 7 ft it should do roughly the same thing, except it will go under the canniser light or stuffed in your waiste band.
The mainlines vary depending on the system. Going through the spectrum you have:
Mainline starts at the surface - Chan-Ho, Tortuga
Mainline is in overhead, but visable from O/w (20 to 40 feet) - Dos Palmas, downstream Dos Ojos
Mainline is not visable from cave entrance (40 to 250...
On the GUE front, there is BAUE. There is a local GUE Fundies and Tech instructor by the name of Beto Nava. We have a good variety of dive boats that run from the monterey harbor almost very weekend.
E3 is west of bluefish cove. You can check it out on this site: MoCal DIR - Dive Sites
It was a grey whale. Was one of the coolest things to see a 25 foot whale in 15 feet of water.
you are getting lots of good advice from many people but ultimately what they have decided to do is only relevent to their diving they do and what logistical challenges they have.
Start with what you know and go from there.
You know that for your class you will need one set of doubles...
nice. as soon as I saw the blue abyss on the Nahoch maps it has been a [distant] dream to go see it. Unfortunatly there is lots of experience needed on my part before even thinking about such a dive.
But I must admit, seeing a couple of scooter divers zip by us in the cave does look...
Well lets be honest here on Grand Cenote, that gap is pushing the spirit of the limits pretty darn hard. A gap in open water doesn't really mean that you can see open water waaaay off to the left. I would classify it more like a jump myself.
Which does bring up a good point regarding...
For cave 1 we were required to have one primary reel for the team and one safety spool (150') for each diver.
For our cave 2 class we were requested to add two more jump spools to the equipment list.
If the team isn't aware and sticking together, then just thumb the dive and discuss it on the surface. Its just not worth it to get separated like that.
If you cant get the person below attention and have him stop his descent, how is he going to help you with and out of air problem? If...
So your saying if you have double al 80's filled to 3000 psi. Then your first penitration would be (3000/3 = 1000 psi. 3000- 1000 = 2000 psi. 1/3 of 2000 psi is 600 psi) 600 psi.
Lets say you do 600 out and 400 back (there is flow) and you are left with 2000 psi in the tanks and want to do...
Lamont,
Current limits for cave 1 are 1/3rd or 500 psi which ever is *less*
mininum 100 cuft to begin penitration.
So for double 80's that would be 500 psi.
You say that now... but lets just check back with you when you are around the 50 dive mark. At that point complacency starts to set in and many people find themselves doing things they wouldnt have done at the begining.
For me, my dives between 50 and 150 were my wakeup dives. I thought I...
How strange, having gone through three difference GUE classes this was only discussed once. And that was to question why I was going over the shoulder. Maybe because its the difference between practical and theoretical?
Theoretically one should go over the shoulder. Practically it doesn't...
99% of the time this really annoys me and I consider a bad habit. (and I say this fully admitting having done it myself upon occasion)
a) It will either blind me as you shine it right in my eyes - Annoying
b) If heavy particulate is in the water "fogs" everything up and I cant see - Annoying...
When needed to bring your SPG forward or dump gas, you want to temporarily hold your light in your right hand.
There is no specific "GUE way" of checking your SPG. Bring it over your shoulder or bring it under your arm, which ever work so long as you are bringing your SPG to the light rather...
