There were reports from the yesterday that the Carmel river had put out a chocolate brown river a bit further north. Sounds like it didn't impact Lobos to much.
Lobos Rocks isn't Monterey or Carmel its Big Sur. Forbidding coast lines with tall cliffs. Nobody around on shore. No shelter from wind, waves, or weather. No support or help likely. Its a very exposed place.
Conditions can and will change while you are underwater. It could be something...
So did Kawika. Though that didn't turn out so well. Be careful out there guys. That is a forbidding coast line and there is little in the way of support.
Glad you had a good dive.
So in the traditions of all those previous "popular threads" I would normally get right into the this sure to be riveting and informative discussion on deep air but in the tradition of many new years eve events, I am in the process of getting liquored up and hitting the road.
Couple of advantages to NOT putting clips on the deco rigs for our team:
1) Clip costs $6 to $12. 3" of bungie & 6" of braided #24 nylon costs $0.04.
2) Adds weight to my gear that I transport around.
3) Its an easy way to identify if someone is using backgas. Look for the clip...
The major problem with this cave is two fold.
1) Its an effing long walk to get to the cave. Backmount double al80's was brutal enough. Carrying 130's is just crazy. Especially over a multi day trip. All ready with the gear we were carrying to the cave entrance each day we were soaked...
Peter,
The primary purpose of the OK in step B is to make sure the team is good with you shooting the bag. On a real dive the full team may not always aware that you have pulled out the bag and you need to get the okay before doing something non-reversible.
As I see it its the bullet points are:
My god. Its an uncomplicated recreational dive. Who cares??
You have enough gas to complete the dive so who cares???
You have two buddy teams so you can split up and let the other team complete their dive if you run low so who cares????
If you...
First off, an SPG is not a backup. DIR also doesnt use hoseless air intigrated computers. The SPG clipped to the d-ring on your left waist is the only gauge on your back gas tanks.
Begining with the end in mind, a console doesn't scale. Some various reasons
1) a console is bigger than a...
Switching between 100' and 150' spools is too much of a pain so I pretty much normalized on a 150' spool w/#18 line on it.
Many of our deeper dives down here can be planned such that you come up to at least 110' before leaving the reef.
For deeper dives that may have the potential to...
People dont realize that when you jump into water that cold without exposure protection you don't have that long before hypothermia sets in and you just can physically keep your head above the water.
Very sad.
From a philosophy point, If the only stages that you do not mark are bottom stages then you *are* marking your bottom stages by not marking them.
I.e. if you ask your buddy to confirm your bottom stage, he is looking to confirm that your stage has no MOD sticker on it.
The main issue...
Guy,
You are being a bit of a sea lawyer here and the argument you have regarding Ballbuster is pretty weak considering that 99% of the Ballbuster site is above 100'. Is there some overwhelming need to touch the bottom at 105' when everything interesting as above you?
The BAUE rules are...
Yeah thats what I said. We got home at reasonable hours in our class.
Sure we did get tired. But since then we have done several 3 1/2+ hour double stage dives down in Mexico and a double double Grand Traverse at Peacock. I get a bit tired after those as well.
Yeah! Its not our fault the original mapping was wrong! How close was YOUR map on closing the loop????
Back to the original topic though. What I found at the C2 level was that there was not a tremendous amount of lecture and very little in the way of dry runs. If I remember correctly...
Guy,
It should be very clear what would occur. You would not be allowed to do that dive. And rightly so. If you were on a BAUE charter you would either a BAUE member or diving as a guest of a BAUE member. In either case you will have agreed to abide by the rules that the club has...
