Mares Icon HD Net Ready Connect USB to Mac

Mares is not doing this in house. They have farmed it out to an outside developer. Based on an email exchange I had with him recently, I don't believe they are any closer to solving this than they were a year ago. FWIW, as I indicated in another post on this thread, the PC version does work in a...

    Mares MRS Plus

I have two Mares BCs - an Icon and a Dragon. My son also has a Prestige. We've never had a problem with the weight pockets falling out. Assuming you're careful about making sure the disconnects are properly seated, you should have no issues.

    Strobe and rechargeable batteries??

I definitely recommend the rechargeables. I have two Sealife strobes and a Nikon Speedlight. Given the cost of the higher end batteries, these plus a good charger will pay for themselves pretty quickly. I recommend the Maha Powerex charger and Powerex 2700 batteries. Both are available from...

Problems with Diver's Diary and the Mares Matrix

I have had the identical issue with Diver's Diary and my Icon HD Net Ready, but it's not even an issue of different computers or USB configuration. Diver's Diary does not work in OS X. But if you run Windows in a virtual machine on the same Mac, Mares Windows dive log works just fine. So it's...

Laguna Beach Resort - Utila Family Bungalow

We just returned from a week there. Did not stay in the family bungalow. My eife and I had one of the king bed ones. But, as laurenceh points out, everything is very near everything else, and the facilities are very nice. Staff was top notch. Highly recommended.

    Divers Diary for Mac

After 7 months? Yes, I did. I pointed this out on another thread. The software is functionally useless. Connection is highly unstable, as acknowledged by Mares in its latest release notes. I am a big fan of this company, and own many of their products, but their software support is non-existent...

    Mares Dive Computer Tech Assistance

Boy do I feel like an idiot. I was insisting that my Net Ready did not come with a screen protector. I also thought it was odd that my screen got scratched, since it's advertised as scratch-resistant mineral glass. I finally took a closer look today and, yep, my LDS had obviously put on the...

Mares HD Icon transmitter battery change

    1. It's a standard 123A camera battery. In a dry, clean area, detach the transmitter from your first stage and remove the two small phillips screws from the top. Gently pry off the top, and you can then, also gently, pull out the circuit board and battery holder. Just pop out the old one and...

Mares Icon HD Net Ready Connect USB to Mac

I had the same issues when I got my Net Ready last year. Zak made every effort to help, and ultimately put me in touch with a Mares software engineer. Still did not help and, frankly, the engineer seemed rather clueless. The same "unstable connection" warnings are on the web site. It seems that...

    Mares Dive Computer Tech Assistance

That is the safer course Hatul. Thanks. I have a feeling they'll be even less visible when I add the screen protector.

    Mares Dive Computer Tech Assistance

Mine did not come with a screen protector. I plan on picking up a Zagg. I doubt Brasso will work - the screen is glass, not plastic.

    Mares Dive Computer Tech Assistance

Zak: I got some minor scratches on the screen of my Icon HD Net Ready on a recent trip. Obviously I should have gotten a screen protector, but too late for that now. Do you know if a commercial scratch repair product, like for a watch face, will work?

    Dragon BCD

On my Dragon, I used a soldering iron to punch two holes through the outer side of one of the pockets. The heat from the iron fuses the material as it's punching through, so there's no worry about fraying.

    What's the best caribbean livaboard?

IMHO, it is without a doubt the Cuan Law -- Luxury Sailing in the British Virgin Islands It's a 105 foot sailing trimaran. Sleeps 20. Principally sails the BVI, although they do some other local areas as well. My wife and I and another couple spent a week on her last year, and it was one of the...

    Aperture vs Mac Lightroom

I'm a big fan of Aperture - relatively easy to learn for beginners, but also has a nice set of more advanced features. FYI, if you do go that way, you really don't need to use iPhoto. Aperture has all the features of iPhoto plus the more advanced editing. Also, when you do get more advanced, it...

Mares Icon HD Net Ready Reviews and Dive Experiences

I really don't think it's an issue, and unpairing seems to be unnecessary. I've had mine well within 5 feet of each other for several days, with no noticeable adverse effects. With that being said, I agree that it's a good idea to carry a spare battery -- CR123A's are pretty common. I pick up a...

Mares Icon HD Net Ready Reviews and Dive Experiences

I've dived with mine several times now. At first I was removing it out of an abundance of caution, but it's really not necessary. Now I just leave it attached. But just a word of advice -- make sure if you pack your reg with other equipment, that it's well padded. The transmitter sticks up a...

If you had to give 3 tips to a rookie...

I have a sense that he's looking for a little more basic advice. Here's what I'd say: 1. At first, go automatic until you feel more comfortable with the difference in conditions under water and above water. Particularly since you have not been diving that much, it's important not to overload...

Displaying u/w photos in your home?

My wife and I took the electronic photo frame idea to a slightly higher level. We were at Costco one day, and noticed a closeout on a discontinued Panasonic 46 inch flat screen TV with an SD card slot and the ability to display slide shows. When you consider the cost of printing and framing...
