The Third Dive: The Death of Rob Stewart

It's all about the numbers in these halcyon social media days. Never mind the quality, feel the width.

I had Spontaneous Pneumothorax left and right lungs 15 years ago, can i scuba dive like 15 feet?

Indeed. I had a left-side SP 40 years ago, but was medically cleared more than 30 years later after a barrage of tests. (Admittedly, it helps knowing a doctor who dives, and is familiar with BSAC guidance on the subject.) See above. After 40 years and various x-rays, scans and a spiral CT I'm...

I had Spontaneous Pneumothorax left and right lungs 15 years ago, can i scuba dive like 15 feet?

Without specific and expert medical advice to the contrary (or even with such advice) a twin pneumothorax occurring "only" 15 years ago is a massive contraindication. It's easy to say "like only 15 feet", but not so easy to stick to that religiously, unless that's the absolute maximum depth of...

What do you use against sea sickness?

Stugeron has seen me safely across the Irish Sea many times in a force 8 on a ferry with dodgy stabilisers. I'll maybe give hyoscine a try next time, though. Thanks for this. I didn't even search for other threads - I should have known this would have come up (no pun intended) before.

What do you use against sea sickness?

Second that! I only ever lost one dive, once, the last of the day, and that was the last time I went out on anything remotely rough without taking something, usually Stugeron (active ingredient cinnarizine) which I don't see mentioned elsewhere - maybe it's more of a UK thing? I favour...

Is there a technique to banging on a tank?

    Sorry, did someone say something?

Is there a technique to banging on a tank?

Isn't this a PADI specialty? Trick missed, PADI.

    This gave me the creeps

It would be Ironic if the group from "the Baptist Creation Ministries" ended up with a Darwin award.

Hurghada or Sharm for Day Dives?

If you can actually get to Sharm it shouldn't disappoint you. Coral and sea life is doing really well there, a silver lining from the reduced traffic over the last couple of years. It's very much geared for day boats doing two or three dives, so expect to be on board from 08:00 - 16:00. The...

We need a button that says "do a search, this exact topic was discussed last week!"

From 2012 : A question about Scuba Board posting etiquette "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun."

10 days in Egypt in August

It's possible to do a day trip from Marsa Alam to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings. It's a long day, admittedly, but well worth it.

Are sharks more likely to attack surfers, scuba divers, or snorkelers?

It's ironic that we rail against doing a "trust me" dive but - by necessity - we cheerfully put our lives in the hands of the pilot that gets us to the dive resort.

Are sharks more likely to attack surfers, scuba divers, or snorkelers?

Just finished that, what a nightmare of a tale. And he went diving again the next week!

Are sharks more likely to attack surfers, scuba divers, or snorkelers?

My first dives post-qualification were in Sharm just after the 2010 Oceanic Whitetip attacks and there were a few nervous people on the boat. (Was I one of them? You bet I was!) Reassuring us, the DM said that such sharks were very unlikely to attack scuba divers because they could "sense" the...

Need help Deciding between Southern France, Italian Riviera, Malta, British Isles & Spanish Islands

You'll be looking at a 7mm with all the trimmings for the Isle of Man at pretty much any time of the year. I've dived Malta in February and found a 5mm was more than sufficient.

Ponderosa/Eden and Tajma Ha or Dos Ojos x2?

At the risk of giving away spoliers, Tajma Ha has a bit where you surface into a bat cave! That was cool. It's also the only one I've dived, so I can't compare it with the others you mention, but it did also have a few spots with nice light rays which came out just about OK on my basic...

    Recommendations near Moon Palace Cancun

Speaking from personal experience I wouldn't recommend Aquaworld to my worst enemy for diving. They are, as mentioned above, a huge operation and very good at getting you there, but the actual diving experience was awful. I knew the cattle boat would be bad...

    Silfra - weight limit??

Most folk I saw there were using hired gear, so maybe it's to do with the dry suit sizes some operators carry? I see some have an upper weight limit of 120kg too, and also a height range of 150-200cm.

    Advice for Malta/Gozo holiday

From St Julian's we drove up to Cirkewwa and then on from there - it's much quicker than doing the whole journey by boat. There are a few nice wrecks there you can shore dive on the Malta side too. The twin centre idea is a good one. The peace and quiet is on Gozo, but most of the culture and...

    Advice for Malta/Gozo holiday

Gozo's got some great sites, but it's really quiet. Valletta itself has a lot going on, as does St Julian's just outside Sliema where we stayed last time. (Dived with Divewise there, and can highly recommend them.) Maltese drivers have a bad reputation, but if you're used to driving on the left...
