    Hawaii advice

I hope to visit Honolulu in October. I would like to do 2 or 3 days diving while there. I hope I can get advice on:- 1. Is it worth going to another Island for diving days, or is Ohau on a par with the others? 2. Who should I dive with? 3. Is October an OK time for diving? I don't like...

    Where are these Regs made?

This has gone round and round a few times already on the board. The truth is there are very few true manufacturers of regulators, most of the regs we know are rebadged. The 2 I am absolutely certain of are Beuchat, made inhouse in Marseilles, and Poseidon in Sweden. For all you Apex and Aqualung...

    Computer to Log Book Reconciliation

Good job you have a Suunto. Dive manager is a great piece of software. Download your dives into DM, and then add notes as to location boat, buddies, dm, kit and notes on the dive itself. You can attach photos to the record, and then keep you log on a usb stick, lighter and more portable than a...

    Dive Manager for Mac!

Just heard from Suunto that at last they will be releasing a version of Dive Manager for the Mac OS. Apparently it will be available in spring. I wonder if it will come complete with an app for the iphone/pad? Anyhow it's good news. At the moment I have win7 through bootcamp solely for running...

    OK Heres my rant!!!!

I couldn't agree more!! As a new diver I had a Nikonos V with all the bells and whistles, and took heaps of photographs. After a year or 2 I had boxes of slides of beautiful fish, and corals, which I never looked at. I then realised that I had enough photos of fish, and have not used a camera...

    Exmouth - Coral Bay

I would concentrate on Coral Bay. Nice small dive op friendly, helpful, as enthusiatic about the marine life as the paying customers! Not over controlling and regimented. Prices reasonable. Between the 2 dive sites spent over an hour with a pod of humpbacks, saw dugongs, and tiger shark between...

    No more deep diving deaths

Unfortunately partial pressure is partial pressure irrespective of the interface, so the same consequences will occur Ox tox, He jitters, the bends etc ( depending on the chosen gas mix for the dive). The work of breathing liquid will be huge compared to gas ie. very uncomfortable, that is...

Dive Log, Mac Dive, Dive Log Manager... I'm lost.

I'm wrestling with the same issue. I really like Suunto DiveManager, which logs all the data from my Suunto computer and displays it in useful manner. Having tried MacDive, which just about gets all the info, but displays it in a way that I don't like, I've come up with the solution. I have a...

    beuchat VX-10 iceberg

Spratman, I know it is a long time ago that you raised this, but thought I would reply now that I have both the Dive Rite hurricane kit and the Beuchat V 200 service kits in my posession, and they are identical. I used the Dive Rite parts to service my Beuchat. Internal tweaks would amount to...

    Metric or Imperial

I might be wrong but I recon you get a longer dive in imperial 500psi = 35 bar!! Alternativley 50 bar = 725psi.

    Accident at Vortex Springs 8-20-10

I am appalled that there is so much reference to a lawsuit. In any rational persons mind, no one but the unfortunate diver can be held accountable. It strikes me that the pioneers of cave diving don't hold a cave cert?! There was no cave cert at the time for them to get and they, like Ben...

    Suunto (cobra2) data cable question

Hi Hatul, it might be the cobra 3 and DM3.1. They seemed to change things with the newer computers. My advice is that the Generic cable may work in some configurations , but not all, so before bying ensure that your OS and computer is on the supported list.

    din conversion

On just about all regs, the one torque specification given in the service manual, is the yoke nut and similarly the din fitting. Generally they are specified to a torque of 25 - 34 Nm, depending on the brand. Scuba tools has a torque wrench in this range for just this application...

    Suunto (cobra2) data cable question

I have both cables, and I wish I had just bought the Suunto one staight up. The generic requires it's own driver, not such a huge issue, but is not compatable with DM 3.1. If you want the generic and software p.m me for a very cheap price.

Newbie diver long trip report - Questionable diving?

I understand your anxiety, and for your 1st open water boat dive, I think you could/should have hired a private DM to take you through it. On the other hand, knowing your lack of experience, the dive shop could have sent someone to take care of you. The good part of the story is that in this day...

    dive buddy got bent

Interesting posts, I have a few questions and comments. Is it standard practice to wait until there is neurological fallout before recompression? If not, which I suspect is the case, there is an urgency to get recompressed. I can fully understand the level of anxiety and frustration that the OP...
