If you want to go out of sebastian you can check out artificial reefs. Go to this link and pick either Indian River or Brevard for a list of all the reefs (the inlet straddles the counties). Visibility isn't likely to be good though because the weather has been rough.
I'll vote for TJ at Dayo Scuba (dayoscuba.com) as the best in town. He provides all the gear needed and is independent so he won't push certain brands of gear on you that you don't need. He also takes Paypal so that would be easy for them to send him the payment for a gift certificate.
Try Blue Spring which is about 45 mins north. It's fun but since you are into photography there's not much to see except the limestone walls. It's required to have a buddy and if you need one I'll volunteer. Another spring to look up, which I haven't yet been to, is Ginnie Springs. If you want...
I wear a 3mm with no gloves or hood and 3mm short booties. When I dive the springs at 72º I get the shivers after about 30 minutes under. Anything from that up to 80º and the suit is perfect.
I'm in Orlando and I think that would be a lot of fun. I know of a couple dive clubs where I'm sure a lot of people would play. The only problem would be finding a pool big enough.
Let me know if you find anything. I also want to start diving from a kayak. I think a great place to start is Pepper Park in Ft. Pierce. The reef and wreck are not to far from shore.
I have a Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro which is similar to this. It has a perfect spot cut out in the rear for a dive...
I live in Florida where the lakes have a high algae content and the tap water has a high chlorine content. After a lake dive I can never decide if I want to risk my gear (especially wetsuit) smelling of lake or risk it being degraded by the chlorine after a rinse. What do you guys and girls think?
I was freediving at Blue Spring today and it was great-- at least 30 ft vis.-- until about 4 swimmers came and stirred everything down to 10 ft vis. If you go on a weekend it will be like this. If you're one of the first ones there it won't be bad because down deeper it was unaffected by the...
Hi everyone I have been reading this board for quite a while and I've learned a lot. Still a long ways to go though! I got certified last month but I've been snorkeling all my life. I don't know why I didn't get certified earlier. Now I only have about 15 dives but once I get full set of gear I...
I was reading the news and saw an article about scientists are living underwater for 9 days in the Aquarius research module. The cool part is they have webcams set up so you can watch. I am watching now and it's pretty amazing to see all those divers underwater in real time. Here's the link for...
