This is one good thing I can say about it. At least it's optional and an Instructor can show you why standard gases have far more pluses than negatives, maybe he'd even show you Ratio Deco too ;) Oh, and don't forget demonstrate a valve drill too. :rofl3:

Ratio Deco can be run without helium, it just needs a, uhm, 'TDI tweak' is how I'll term it publically. If you're talking to me in person I may however use a more pointed term or two :14: I won't even bother discussing the forced use of air beyond a reasonably safe depth when there's...

Doh.. Can we strike this one up as a plus for maintaining uniformity at least? :shakehead

The good news is if we put our efforts together, we'll bring them kicking and screaming into the 1990's by 2010. :rofl3: Minus the three stooges of course.

Yep, gotta squirt some of that EAN80 deco gas into the 25.645/32.45 to bring the back gas up to 'best mix' standards..if'n ya get me driftage.. lol OK, gotta stop making fun of my agency now :no :eyebrow:

    Two questions

That's all fine and dandy, but could you do it effectively on a heaving boat, when the dive site just got changed, with no paper, pens and a calculator. Basically what I am asking here is, how real-world effective is it to you? We watch this same thing play out quite hilariously on boats...

That would really hurt if it wasn't so true :) LOL

    How often do you dive?

Uhoh, then I'm doing something wrong over here.. I guess I should answer the poll.....a bit less than Warren L :eyebrow:

    Scary first deep dive

Wrong. If you can't do it properly from 25ft, you shouldn't even be at 80ft, or 60ft for that matter. This is typical padi thinking I might add, and it's all wrong...but I repeat myself. It's also the best reason for NOT allowing people with less than 10 dives to proceed to AOW and the...

    How often do you dive?

Helps a lot when you don't have a real job that actually requires attendance at a specific place and time on a regular basis......lol..... ;)

WOW! Have you guys heard of this????

Kinda makes these guys look a little dumb doesn't it? Maybe it's rocket science, I don't know, but most folks gut reaction would be that it's probably not a good idea given what tires consist of, so a little bit of expertise in the area would have been a keen idea prior to dumping. Yet...

    Cenotes?

Gotta agree with Augustus, Kev. For a cenote tour, you can't beat the mainland ones. There really isn't much of a real cavern to look at in Paraiso. Nice place to be sure, but not the kind of cavern dive I'd suggest for a knock you socks off cavern. I for one am glad it's not either. I'd hate...

    PADI specialties and money

Don't forget the fee Instructors have to pay for either the course from a CD to teach a specialty, or the cost to even teach it based on experience, and the accompanying fee paid to the agency of course. That in and of itself is a hefty haul for the agency. I guess you can uncle-in on the AOW...

Experienced and technical divers -- Checking buddy's pressure

You already did that when I admitted to wearing X-shorts, remember :D Red, I agree whole-heartedly, you don't have to justify anything to me and I do not believe anyone's going to overly take them to task for what may have been a minute's foray to a few feet over what an agency has drawn in the...

Experienced and technical divers -- Checking buddy's pressure

So telling me that Tech 1 students dive deep air strengthens your position how exactly? Uhmm, Jeff my card is about ready to expire. Is it OK if I said I did a brief foray to 125ft without mix down south on my last vacation?, or will they revoke my card? ;)

Experienced and technical divers -- Checking buddy's pressure

110ft, beyond that Jeff and mine protocols are them same. Smug would be bashing you for diving 115ft on air,......... what we are doing is bashing the stupidity of deep deco dives using air, and then pulling out my pocket watch and noting in fact that this is 2006.........just because you (or...

    Hand Signals

I can't imagine this not being the most well known, and easiest numbering system whilst scuba diving in the world. I never figured out why folks had to 'invent' another method, I guess just to call it their own. This one was the one I was quoting earlier, Chris. BTW, I can't count in Hex and...
