    PADI a pain?!?

lol. Well that would have been a kinder way of me stating what I did, but that being said I was of course thinking the same thing. I recall when Padi could do no wrong in my books. I was a real dumb-arse looking back at it. Totally wrong in almost every aspect. I was had, a victim of my own...

That's not the question at all.

    PADI a pain?!?

If it wasn't Padi it would have been another organization. One day I decided to try diving so I walked into a dive shop. If it was SDI I would have become an SDI OW diver. Big deal, the statement means very little at all. If Padi closed up shop today the other agencies would fill their spot...

    stage diving

Exactly bud. One way leaves the potential to lose your gas and have a bad day underwater, the other way leaves one possibly having to service the regs a little more often....a complete no brainer. This takes the most error prone piece of kit out of the equation during the dive....(the...

    stage diving

Reefraff, I assume you never look or check your bottles after you hit the water. It seems to me instead of this half-pregnant approach could be easily fixed by doing a quick roll-on-roll-off approach every few minutes as a part of regular diving activities.(you don't even have to look at the...

    Teaching in a wing

2004, 2009 what's the difference dude? The same issues are what they are and they're not changing and have been so for some time now. But now at least I'm getting some fun out of his thread finally, so it's all good with me :) I guess I should come clean and state I wear a poodle jacket in...

    Teaching in a wing

Holy crap. ya know what?...... Forget it. I don't know where to begin here. Uhggg. <shakes head> lol. I'm glad you model an air2 and an octo cause the store sells it, but you think a BP/W is just too crazy......lol. That's priceless dude. I guess I should ask who teaches them how to dive...

    Regulator Prob "in my head"?

On S-drills/valve drills breathing down a reg will not let water in through the second stage unless you press/bump the purge button after removing it from your mouth. It may get bumped/pressed while it's off, but that's not part of the drill ;) Prior to going to the reg again, the gas (should)...

    Marshall Islands

Tell me you're kidding. So you're either going to be baby-sat through dives you shouldn't be doing in the first place, or as a technical diver they won't allow you to run your own dive? Can you elaborate here? PS> BTW I see you're from Ottawa.....do I know (of) you?

How many non-tech divers carry a pony bottle?

Well, you opened it up bud, let's hear how you call your buddy's death a failure of team, and I'll show you three divers that can't spell team. Please tell me you're not an instructor teaching this archaic nonsense.

    Reasoning for corrugated hose length

Another good reason for a shorter length hose is when carrying stages and/or deco bottles. If the corrugated hose is too long, it tends to get in the way. Had to switch out my Dive-wrong wing's hose for that reason, and I found it made a world of difference.

Diving doubles and being well balanced

It's pretty easy actually. As Chris says, get some actual training. There's very little 'dir' about what you're doing and I can assure you you will learn this stuff from the right guys. BTW what are your buddy's wearing? Are they all changing their tanks because you are?

    Second Stage Retention

I don't think you've seen a bolt-snap retaining an octopus. My guess is you're more likely to see it on a primary, used for clipping it off when it is not in anyone's mouth. Having an octopus clipped off by one of those babies wouldn't be a great idea IMO.
