How deep have you gone and why ?

101' to see what all the fuss was about :D . Turns out everyone was lying there isnt a dam thing down there but a bunch of feathers sticking out of the sand. Turned around and went back to 50' to swim along the reef where fun stuff was.

    Attention Getter...

Noise makers in general have not worked for me. With hood on my wife seldom hears them. Learn to swim shoulder to shoulder and touch before you move away. If your swimming single file through kelp rocks or whatever, treat it like your driving. You have enough time to glance at something but...

Please Tell me if Im Wrong...

Well leave it to me to also be less than 100% with you or your opinion. Diving is not just about what you expect out of your buddy and what you want. If your diving as a team then, teamwork is needed. If there is a failure in teamwork its usually the result of more than just one person. I...

    Cold Water Diving Skills

I had my first 6 dives in Cozumel, the next dive was in Monterey in 51 degree water. Its not the same thing. Its so far removed as to be a different sport all together. Its the equivalent of rock climbing and Ice-Climbing the skills may be very similar in some respecs but they are VERY...

    Bad luck or Superstition

Diving a wreck in poor viz, bad seas, with serious inability to communicate issues with boat crew, and only your 13th dive? I would say number 13 is your lucky number.

Where did you dive this weekend? Spring 2007

Dove Monterey Breakwater 51 degrees, 34' for 47 minutes. Dove Carmel Monastary Beach 50 degrees, 47' for 42 minutes. Beutiful day in Monterey area and nice second dive. Time to move away from breakwater, will definately be spending more time at Monastary beach.

    Nitrox the Wonder Gas

:rofl3: Nitrox will make your spouse want to have sex with you!! Not a wonder gas my ***, heheheh. As far as the extended bottom times go. Yesterday, wife and I dove breakwater (ick, viz was not to good) had a nice guy walk up to us as we were reclining next to our gear before next dive and...

    Nitrox the Wonder Gas

I seriously doubt I will ever find the need to use Nitrox based upon what I have read. If I ever do feel adventerous enough to get into tech diving, I suspect that would change but for now thats a ways off. Diving to 100' or more is not a common occurance for me either so dandydon you are safe...

    Nitrox the Wonder Gas

I was suprised because both myself and my wife were told by two different shops and 4 diffrent divering instructors (maybee more) that items 1-4 were indeed the benefits of using Nitrox. For everyones talk about the added NDL time and of course nobody is mentioning that if your diving to your...

    Nitrox the Wonder Gas

Dr. Bennett is the founder of DAN, and his credentials... well Im not really certain what you need but he has more than enough for me :) . If you link his name and diving Nitrox in google its obvious that the article did not misquote or misrepresent his "expert" opinion.

    Nitrox the Wonder Gas

:D Still researching for safety stops and happened across this article, was more than a bit surprised by the statements made. http://www.scubadiving.com/article4545 What Nitrox Won't Do Claim #1 Nitrox reduces narcosis. This sounds reasonable. If nitrogen causes narcosis and you're...

    What is really Rockbottom?

According to what I have found from a Dr. Larry Taylor http://home.earthlink.net/~divegeeked/fivepercent.htm Quote "The US Naval Safety Center report on diving illness and safety (as described in SPUMS, Sept 1997, p. 179) stated that for the period 1990-1995, there were 648, 488 logged dives...

    What is really Rockbottom?

I certainly have no wish to get DCS however I can find nothing that indicates on dives less than 100' that ascending at 30' per minute isnt sufficient to protect me from DCS? For that matter I cant find anything that says ascending at twice that rate will affect me adversely either??? I...

    What is really Rockbottom?

We are ascending at a rate half the limit of the rdp over a period of more than three minutes from a depth of 99'? If the bends are seriously a concern under this situation then the RDP the open water manual and the AOW manual need to be changed dramtically? Or is PADI really cutting a fine...

    What is really Rockbottom?

Okay here goes, somehow I think this is wrong based upon what I have read so far but I am uncertain so here goes. Rockbottom is defined as the minimum amount of gas required for you and your buddy to ascend from depth safely to surface breathing off one supply? Using a 99' as the depth I...
