I'll be at Old Garden tomorrow afternoon with my nephew, a brand new diver. I hope you're right about the temp (I heard 46) as we'll both be wet, but the viz sounds like a vast improvement over just last week.
I guess I should make him tow the flag then, huh?
IMHO advocating learning Nitrox procedures without the help of instructors ignores one basic fact of life. Not all divers know enough math (let alone algebra) to grasp what that 2 sided sheet of paper is telling them. I recently helped someone through the basic math who couldn't get the...
I do a lot of shore diving and there is usually a ton of crap in the water here. I typically take all the dump valves and inflator hose off every few dives and flush the bladder as well as rinse the outside. It only takes a few minutes extra and gives me a chance to inspect all the dump valves...
I wouldn't be too quick to disable the pee valve. Hydration before a dive is a very good thing and having/using the valve will eliminate any worries about downing a bottle of water before you jump in. Besides, your time in the water will increase quickly.
That being said you should be able to...
Someone who has no respect at all for the advice given by highly experienced divers. Who, with very few dives under their belt, argues every point and refuses to exercise patience with the learning process.

Of course this may have nothing to do with GUE at all (as I think you stated) but it certainly sounds like the change in plan was the result of the organizers deciding they want to do a particular type of diving and aren't open to alternatives. If they're evaluating skill levels as a...
Well, you ARE clearly a whiner...expecting help from a professional to whom you potentially give money for products and service! Who do you think you are anyway?:cool2::shakehead::crafty:
I'm glad I have a whole continent between that shop and me.
Wow, after reading all this I think I need to revisit my decision to go for these gloves. I currently have the diving concepts system on my DUI and my complaint is that the left glove takes two people with power tools to remove ;)
However I have NEVER had a leak or pop-off in over 100 dives...
Hehe...small-framed and my name are two things never used in the same sentence!!

Does the SLT system include the neck seal? The online brochure is pretty unclear about this, in fact I would say it implies this is for the wrist...
So, your implied question was why would someone have such a negative impression of DIR? The answer is right here in this thread...not in the individual posts but the thread itself. For whatever reason the subject has a polarizing effect and attracts controversy like flys (17 pages and climbing...
Thanks to both of you! I have to noodle on it a bit more but I might have to go with the fixed seals and keep my DC gloves, I will have the replaceable seal system put on the neck, though, I really want to try a silicone seal and I hear they are fragile.
Thanks again
If you note my other thread in this sub-forum you'll see that I tried to get a Bare SB suit but their standard sizes didn't "cover" me . I have moved on and am now considering the Whites Fusion Tech suit. OK, I'm more than considering it, the great folks at Aquatic Escapes are bending over...
Dishonesty, pushy sales tactics, inconsistent treatment, and downright shady dealings are on my list of things that will make me change shops. I pretty much agree with the overall list that could be generated from this thread. I think most people will with varying priorities for each...
I have a very nice DUI custom suit. I was looking at selling that and going for the SB for it's light weight and incredible flexibility (have you checked these out in person?). I wasn't looking for full custom...no special cutting, all I needed was a larger top attached to shorter legs. No...
I have to disagree with your comparison, I think it is invalid. PADI's name says that they are a group of professional dive instructors, not that they are what you must be to be professional. DIR, standing for Doing It Right strongly implies that it is the system that is correct, it is right...
I am one of two divers in just the last week who tried to order the new Bare SB System drysuits at my diveshop and weren't able to. It wasn't (stricktly speaking) an availability issue...they reputedly deliver rather quickly. What it was was a SIZING issue.
It would seem that Bare subscribes...
